Gen. McInerney: Kerry Testimony Treasonous(Tell It Like It Is)
Newsmax ^ | 8/28/04 | unknown

Posted on 08/28/2004 2:48:52 AM PDT by beyond the sea

Vietnam veteran-turned-military analyst Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney said Thursday that John Kerry's 1971 testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee portraying Vietnam soldiers as "monsters" would have been consider ground for treason charges in an earlier day.

"There is deep, deep anger for a man who, if he had done this during World War II, would have been tried for treason," McInerney told ABC Radio's John Batchelor.

Noting that two of his brothers also served in Vietnam, where one died, McInerney said, "He betrayed us . . . He betrayed not only my personal family but my [West Point] classmates and all the veterans that were over there."

Referring to the portion of Kerry's testimony where he accused his fellow soldiers of routinely committing barbaric acts on Vietnamese civilians, McInerney told Batchelor, "We did not do those things that he claimed that we did."

McInerney said Kerry's testimony was largely responsible for creating the negative stereotype of Vietnam veterans, noting that many of his fellow soldiers were greeted "babykillers" when they returned from the war.

On Kerry's decision to make his Vietnam service the centerpiece of his presidential campaign, McInerney said, "He picked a scab that he should not have."

If I'm naive, then you're living in the past. If socialists truly controlled the press as they did pre-cable and pre-internet then we'd have heard little or nothing from the Swifties.

The MSM, I admit, has been dragged kicking and screaming into this story but in it they are now. Check out the articles that are finally appearing in the Wash. Post, the Chicago Sun-Times and other large city papers that are questioning Kerry's version of the events and giving credence to the Swifties. That's been forced on them by Fox News, internet bloggers and Drudge. It'll only get worse for Kerry as these papers can't avoid any longer taking up the cry for Kerry to fully release his records.

Bush was smart to take an issue away from Kerry by deploring all of the 527, most of whom support Kerry. Bush and McCain know that nothing is going to silence ANY of the 527s without additional legislation. That has zero chance of occurring before next year if ever.

So Bush has taken an issue away from Kerry without having to give anything up himself. Kerry can't logically criticize Bush on the Swifties without answering why he doesn't condemn and call for silencing his 527s or admitting as Bush has that he has no control over them. If he does, he ends up looking like a hypocrite to the independents and moderate Democrats. Their votes are the one's that will win or lose the election.

Kerry won't be able to say that the General lacks credit.

And he would be stupid to try. Thomas might get even more ticked and go kick Kerry's a--.

So Bush has taken an issue away from Kerry without having to give anything up himself.

You are wrong. Bush gave up a hell of a lot. The couple hundred thousand $$$ the Swift Boat Vets spent got FAR more mileage than the $65 million or so Democratic 527 $$$. Bush screwed himself by trying to silence the Vets both because of effectiveness of the Swifties AND because Bush wants to silence free speech.

If he does, he ends up looking like a hypocrite to the independents and moderate Democrats. Their votes are the one's that will win or lose the election.

You are wrong again. There is no such thing as moderate democrats and independents. If a voters are not solidly for Bush or Kerry right now, 99% of them will vote for Kerry. And regarding your "hypocrite" commment, the press always makes Bush or any "R" look like a hypocrite to the ignorant masses so you are once again incorrect.

Bush will lose if he does not energize core Republicans and some nonvoters who may decide to vote this year. Trying to silence the Swift Boat Vets will not gain Bush any voters but will cost Bush votes as many conservatives throw in the towel after watching Bush pull a pro-Kerry stunt like that.

Bush already has energized the base plus some. Haven't you noticed the recent polls that show while 3% of registered Republicans may vote for Kerry, 15% of Democrats polled are prepared to vote for Bush.

Bush knows that nothing ANYBODY says is going to silence the Swifties. He isn't filing a complaint with the FEC or doing anything serious to silence them but merely paying lip service to the issue. The first lady was quoted in the press yesterday as saying the Swifties have a right to voice their opinion which really amounts to a wink and a nod from Bush. The Swifties have the funds to carry this effort right through the election;they're not going anywhere. Notice Bush hasn't called for an end to their ad in particular, but an end to all 527s; none of which is going to happen.

Anybody with an IQ above room temperature can see that Kerry's boxed in on this. He can't shut the Swifties up. Kerry can only whine and plead for Bush's help(how weak is that)while more and more evidence of his lies and fabrications trickle out daily and more people in the media question his veracity. The call eventually will grow louder and louder for Kerry to fully release his records. If his records supported his case he would have done so long ago. Meanwhile, Bush stays above the fray bemoaning all of the 527s while Kerry supporters wail and thrash about as their campaign dies a little more each day.

What evidence do I have of this? Look at any Democrat talking head the last two weeks. They've become unhinged and unglued. They offer no facts to back up Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia and they even now admit that Kerry's first PH may not have been earned. And there's more, much more, to come. They offer only screeching ad hominem attacks on the messengers. That's a losing formula I'm happy to say.

No, it is a winning forumula for the Democrats. "Screeching ad hominem attacks" is normal discourse for the ignornat masses.

Bush made yet another major blunder by lumping the Swift Boat ads in with the RATs' ads.

Wanna bet?

Sure, I will bet. Bush screwed up and he did it just as people were starting to look seriously into the background of Kerry.

The last bet I made over the Internet was when some loser around 9/11 bet me that Amazon was going to go out of business. The stock was around $9 busks at the time. I said not only will they not, but I bet him the stock would double over the next twelve months. Most members of that thread thought I was crazy.

Well, the stock quadrupled. Never heard from the loser I bet with.

This time, I bet Bush is going out of business. It will happen because Bush has committed political suicide by saying Kerry should be proud of his war record.

When our president says this about a traitor (due to his anti-American statements while at war), it is time to realize Bush has no chance since he turns off hard core conservatives by making such crazy statements.

Save this thread to hard disk. We will revisit this during the post-election wake for Bush.

Note that the general in the statement heading this thread is mentioned in a Times article http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/20/washington/20generals.html by name as being a member of a group of former military officers recruited and used by the Pentagon to support the war on news show interviews and in op-eds in exchange for official access, military contracts, etc. Says McInerney in one case signed his name to op ed partially written at the Pentagon for him. Don’t know how true this article is (it says it is based ib FOIA documents from the Pentagon), but you should be aware of the article about this retired general.
