How does it apply?

Wat you want to wear at a ball game has no relationship to whether you have 1st amendment "rights" vis a vis your employer (you don't).

I tried to watch Seinfeld and never laughed once.

Sounds like a setup by the demoncRATS support group. The guy will have a job with a demoncRAT group like the Sierra Club or Moveon.org or some such group.

I worked for a design firm that did a lot of museum exhibits (I'm also a graphic designer, probably the only conservative one in the country for what I've seen!) and my former boss was an old 60's Berkeley leftist dude. When we got the National Museum of the Marine Corps as a client I had to witness him transparently suck up to our wonderful military and it was rather disgusting to behold because the man is anti-military to his core. BUT--he knew who his client was. If any one of us had gone to a Marines-sponsored event, or anything they invited us to, and shouted stuff that was insulting to the Corps, you bet we would've been canned, and fast! Even if the boss agreed with it, it's the client that counts in business.

BTW...Anybody know any conservative-leaning design firms out there??? Any that at least aren't totally full of liberals???? In Georgia?

Great Seinfeld episode. It is applicable to this thread as Elaine was there on tickets given by a company that did the Yankees accounting.

Man, its a tough crowd tonight. Those of us without a humor deficiency thought of this episode too in reading the article.

If he harmed his companies business by his political free speech, he should be fired. He can speak all he wants as an unemployed person.

I think that the Democrat's have been taken over by the Socialist's/Communist's. But when one person stands up and speaks his mind he shouldn't be fired from his job!

"Customers keep jobs available, while employees are overhead."
Yes, you're right on the button, but in all due respect, it is because of my employees (love 'em all)that I'm able to make a very healthy profit. I don't mind the overhead.

This had nothing to do with political beliefs! It was his boorish behavior while using tickets provided by a client of his company.

I thought it fit in quite well with this thread's topic, but, I guess to those that have never seen Seinfeld, or worse yet, have seen it and found it not to be funny, it might seem out of place.

(FYI....Seinfeld on DVD is scheduled for November '04 release)

Absitivly!! Though as an employer you have to have the balance sheet in the back of your mind & if/when any employee, no matter how near & dear to you, becomes a liability, it's your responsibility to let them go.

But when one person stands up and speaks his mind he shouldn't be fired from his job!

He was apparently disruptive enough to be escorted out of the event amid chants from the incited crowd. I can understand how the client would become upset.

As far as the the now-unemployed graphic designer's tripe about no venue for the "regular guy" to "ask a question", I sincerely doubt regular unemployed guy had any intention of "asking" anything. He successfully exercised his right to free speech; he did not land in jail for his disruptive comments.

The mistake he made here is twofold:
1. failing to realize "free speech" does not equate to "protected speech".
2. failing to realize the customer is always right.

Sorry crusty, I can't seem to dredge up any moral outrage for this guy. Boorish behavior is not an entitlement.

I am staunch supporter of GWB but this is wrong. If anybody in West Virginia is a client of this Company they should not deal with them anymore! This is exactly what the DNC is looking for!

The company did the right thing. This clown got the ticket to the event through his job. He embarrassed his company by heckling Bush. End of story.
