Holy Moley, what don't you understand...it had nothing to do with his political belief, it had to do with his behavior and his lack of respect toward the client. Jeez!
To: crusty codger
According to the news, he wasn't fired for his "Political stand" but for embarrassing his employer's clients while on company business.
To: crusty codger
I am staunch supporter of GWB but this is wrong. If anybody in West Virginia is a client of this Company they should not deal with them anymore!" Your company's client is a Bush supporter and gives you tickets to a Bush event. You go to the Bush event and make a scene, causing that client embarassment. The guy deserves to be fired.
If he obtained the tickets on his own, then you would have a case.

He wasn't drunk, he was using his First Amendment rights! No, he was behaving inappropriately as the guest of a client, embarrassing the client and his employer. Content of his speech isn't the issue.

"He wasn't drunk, he was using his First Amendment rights!"
What does the first ammendment have to do with it?

So when you lose an arguement, you resort to name-calling?
To: crusty codger
He was canned because he offended clients, not because he heckled Bush.
Is it OK to offend clients? Aren't clients the lifeblood of most companies?

So companies should be able to fire people according to their political believes?NO, for misbehaving at the client's event.
If I go to a clients picnic and grab the client's wife by the ass, the client's ofended and my boss should fire me.
Grabing an ass or being an ass, do it on your own reputation, not as a representative of others.

I would assume that if Mr. Miller accepted tickets from a client to a GWB rally the client thought Miller would be supportive of President Bush and not use the rally as a platform to Bush Bash.
If he was a professional, he would have declined the tickets with a simple explanation to the client that he was not supporting President Bush for re-election.
Sounds to me like the guy took advantage of the situation to get into the rally with credible credentials provided by his client, and then went on a rant to promote his personal agenda.
It would be interesting to know if Mr.Miller was aware of his client's political support, whether he attended the rally on company time and if the company has any policy manual that outlines employee/client relationships and the accepting of "gifts".
Maybe with his "creative mind" he can get a job with the DNC.
I am sure if he had offended a client of Donald Trump's, the message would be loud and clear: "YOU'RE FIRED"~

He wasn't drunk, he was using his First Amendment rights! Slam dunk for his case in my opinion! Can you quote the part of the First Amendment that says your speech is guaranteed to have no negative consequences, and the part that nullifies your employer's rights of free association?

There are consequences for everyone involved.
Heckle-boy lost a job.
The agency lost an employeee and damaged a relationship with a client.
And client lost face with someone at the event (to what end we don't know).
Everyone has freedom and with freedom comes consequences for actions.

WEST: (leaving) Well, enjoy the game. (beat -- to Elaine) I think you
better take off that Orioles cap.
ELAINE: (thinking he's joking) Yeah. I better!
WEST: No, no, no. Seriously. You're in the owner's box, and I don't
think it's a good idea.
ELAINE: You're not serious.
WEST: Yes, yes, yes, I am!
ELAINE: Well, did he say that?
WEST: No, no, but he gave me the seats. I don't think he'd like it if
you wore an Orioles cap.
ELAINE: Well maybe you should ask him!
WEST: I don't have to ask him! Now are you gonna take the hat off or
not?
ELAINE: No! I don't have to take it off, why should I take it off? This
is ridiculous!!
GEORGE: Just take the cap off.
ELAINE: George, we are at a baseball game! This is America!
WEST: Look. Either you take the cap off, or you'll have to leave.
ELAINE: Well, I don't care, I'm not taking it off.
GEORGE: Just take the cap off!
ELAINE: No!
(a fight starts between Elaine and George; Elaine ends up taking off
GEORGE'S hat, and throwing it onto the field... West calls security
over, they proceed to remove Elaine)

First Ammendment rights have nothing to do with the actions of a private entity, the business.
You also do not have an absolute right to make any noise you desire to make, even at political events. You have the right to say what you want, but not always everywhere you wanna say what you want.
To: crusty codger
Heh! No, I just want employers to have the freedom to fire people. They hire more easily when they feel free to fire them.

Ah, a union member. That explains a lot. Now I realize what I hate about your kind. The Commie entitlement mentality, for one. Beat up any scabs lately?

This guy acted like a jackass, embarrassed his employer and a client, and quite properly lost his job.
