Anti Kerry ad Causing Controversy (WTVG WILL RUN SWIFT VETS AD)

An anti John Kerry TV ad is causing controversy across the county including right here in Toledo.

A group of Vietnam veterans calls John Kerry a bad leader who lied to get his war medals. This sixty second ad by a group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, starts airing today in three battleground states including Ohio. In all, 13 Vietnam veterans accuse John Kerry of lying about his decorated war record and betraying his shipmates by later opposing the Vietnam War.

13 action news and Toledo Blade political analyst Fritz Wenzel says the ad comes just a week after the democratic convention when Kerry touted his war record. He also said "what this commercial does is undercuts that main claim to fame for him, it muddies that water more than anything else, we're talking about events more than 35 years old." Republican senator John McCain, a former prisoner of war called the ad "dishonest" and "dishonorable." McCain also called on the White House to condemn the ad as well. The White House has declined. UT political science professor David Davis, who's a Vietnam veteran, considers the ad unethical.

The big question is how will voters react? At least four stations, including 13 abc *will* air the advertisement from swiftvets.com.

And then McCain called on the The Almighty to "fire Jesus Christ from His place at the right hand of the Father," and "give it to someone more worthy of the position -- like me."

McClellan said the President deplores all of the ads sponsored by these shadowy groups because he (GWB) has been the target of more uthan $62 million in negative ads sponsored by these shadowy groups.

We spend $100,000 on one ad and the entire lib establishment has a cow.

I suspect that if Kerry's service records were released -- including his mediocre fitness reports -- we would begin to see the valid profile of this despicable megalomaniac in its true light.

The problem here is that the Naval Service utilizes the fitness report procedure to kill a weak officer's promotion, as well as assist in accelerating a 5%'s fast track.

In killing the weak performer, we damn with faint praise -- and, to the uninitiated, it might seem that the bum was indeed an "adequate" performer. Of course, the Promotion Board members read between the lines, and know exactly what the game is.

I would be really interested in knowing what my old friend, RAdm. Art Price, in Coronado, has in his little black book on Kerry. Art was CTF-116 at the time, and Hoffman, et. al. reported to him. Art is getting along in years, and I suspect he is keeping his own counsel on this one.

I have known my share of Kerrys in my many sea tours. We used to call them "One Tour Rape Artists" -- Commanding officers who would burn a ship and crew to ashes in an attempt to get that knotch on the holster enroute to flag rank. In my view, there is nothing more contemptible that an officer can ever do than this, for the entire crew is literally devastated by such self-serving conduct. As an aside, I sent my money to the Vets. Hope we can continue to press this issue until the truth sees the light of day.

McCain gets power. He doesn't have any hope to be President (and he blames Bush for that). But he's the media darling for being the GOP anti-Bush force. He can be on any tv or radio show he wishes. He won't get any criticism.
He could get a cabinet post in a Kerry WH, but never in a Bush one.

He's playing it both ways. Just like he's always done.

This claim has been around for months, the only reason it is making such a splash now is because they are running paid ads. Kerry thought he had it licked as long as it depended on the media for publication.

Good for you! 3 shots, 3 kills. I served 10 years later overseas and we have honor to uphold.

Concerning McCain, does he have the courage to state
which individuals in the ad are dishonest?

Excellent challenge to McCain. McCain is nothing more than a Political Whore, a show-boat who loves the lime-light. Rather that feeling the slightest twinge of brotherhood with the veterans, who frankly McCain knows nothing about, he feels a stronger kinship to the guy in the Senator's Club. He worrying more about how his own position of power could be threatened by such tactics than whether the story the veterans have to tell is the truth, which he seems to have dismissed outright. Ironic, seeing as McCain, being a Hanoi Hilton POW would be expected to be one of the most offended by Kerry's shameless anti-war history.

You are missing the point! McCain's campaign finance bill is responsible for 527s to spring up. McCain dug his own grave. Spit him in the face with it. Apparently no one has done so yet.

In many respects the democrats already control the media, with the exception of talk radio, the internet and Fox News.
