What the hell is he talking about?!

After about ten minutes, that's what I was saying.

One FReeper, about a thousand posts ago, said he needed to say a quarter as much in half the time to be more effective. He really got me lost in his ramblings, leaving me to only hear platitudes that just will not sway voters.

Not sure I agree with that

When Mara what's her name on Fox says that Kerry's salute will be the most memorable part of tonight, I think that's good for Nader. The hard core Dems don't like the military, don't like war and especially don't like what's going on now. It seems Kerry is trying to out-Bush Bush in terms of patriotism and the military, two things the Dem base hates.

this is an omen...on some news program I saw today...the balloons didn't drop correctly at the 1980 convention (Carter) and a pundit was saying how important it was that the balloons drop because there was some problem with them falling (they just drifted down slowly) at the Carter 1980 convention and look what happened to him :)

Disagree.
The speech lacked any real substance. It avoided Kerrys Senate and Lt. Governor record. Networks have already pointed that out.

There is nothing that will continue to stand out about this speech. And claims that Kerry made were false...and that will come back to haunt him. All they have to do is point out his votes.

Speech Communications is what my degree....and part of my career have been about. And I have read and seen a lot of speeches. This one was not that great at all.
HIS TARGET AUDIENCE WAS NOT IN THAT HALL. Don't let the talking heads fool you. He already has the liberal vote.

He will get a bumb in points.....but a speech like that won't hold those points. And he has had only dem types going to his stump speeches. His next big moment is debate time....and things he said tonight...and other flip flops in his record...are gonna be thrown in his face.
And all the balloons and actors on planet earth can't help him there.

It was much better than I thought it would be. The writers did a magnificent job of stealing some of Dubya's ideas as if they were theirs. That was a Clinton trick.

The GOP should respond right away: just by saying he would be a strong commander in chief doesn't make it so. Then, they should highlight all of his no votes on weapons systems that are so important today.

Mara Liasson liked the salute at the beginning at the speech, she called it the memorable soundbite of the convention.

Nope. This will be the memorable sound bite of the convention. (Go to Drudge and click on the link to the wave file of the producer looking for the balloons).

Perhaps, but I think the GOP is incorrect to not have seized upon these domestic issues. I think that allowing Kerry to define domestic issues is a mistake for the GOP.

I take your pointing out my sign-in date as a welcome, and I thank you!

You are correct--it wasn't a horrible speech, and actually, I think Kerry did a good job of bringing up domestic issues that the GOP should address: healthcare, taxes, education, outsourcing.

What are you talking about?

Ah. I see. "Newbie nonsense".

Political awareness primer: All politicians bring up "hot" issues; some even propose solutions; some have a record of success.

Review question: Which candidate has a record of successfully addressing "hot button" issues? (Hint: Distributing Senator Heinz money to anti-American organizations does not qualify as "successfully addressing issues".)

"Michael Barone nailed it."

He also said that everytime Kerry brought up a strong military, nobody clapped or cheered.

Ok, I have to vent. I forced myself to sit there and watch the whole speech, because I wanted to see what we're up against. And I have to say I'm not all that worried.

Basically, it was very typical and predictable Kerry. His main qualification for being President is because he served 4 months in Vietnam. Oh, and for everything good, and against everything bad. He wants us not to be dependent on Saudi oil. Great! So do I, but no specifics on how he's going to do that.

He wants to give the middle class a tax cut, and balance the budget. Oh yeah, he also wants universal health care, a bigger military, higher minimum wage, and about a billion other goodies. So how's he going to pay for it all?

He vows to make me safer and to kill terrorists. But he won't go to war unless he has to, which I guess means, until we are attacked AGAIN. For the most part, he seemed to come down against the war in Iraq, which was a little surprising he actually seemed to take a stand (or what passes for a stand for him). Guess he thinks that's what's popular today.

Oh, and he wants a civil campaign with no negative attacks, after he called the President a liar, and John Ashcroft a criminal. If this is the best they've got, the Republicans should win this race by 10 points. Start with his 20 year liberal Senate record, which he didn't mention at all. If he keeps up with the Vietnam crap, bring in the anti-military lies he told to the world in 1971.

Ok, now I have to read some of these 5,000 posts to see what everyone else thinks.

Bobby Kennedy Jr. is another nutcase. Too bad he and others in his family never had to get a job and have to take care of themselves financially. The Kennedy's all suck!

Just because i want the speech to be bad does not make it so.
The Democrats went right and might win. The debates is where Bush could kill Kerry. We will see.

His response was it changes you & then some other grey BS Kerryspeak.

What stunned me the most was that he said the "Supposed", Gulf of Tonkin incident. That scared me big time.

True fighters, heroes & warriors don't need to speak of their deeds. Its the weasly nothings who go on incessantly about their supposed accomplishments. They get real boring real fast. A humble patriot like Bush 41 never had to say a word about getting shot down and rescued in WWII..

I'm in the military and I am disgusted with this human liberal scum.
