I'm going to convert bump lists to keywords and discontinue that form of addressing. This will only affect you if you know what a bump list is. Thank you.
Update #1 within the hour pings to bump lists will fail to register. Tick tock...
Update #2 to add an article to the bump lists--which are now keywords--use the "Click to add keyword" link that lists below the text of each article. Enter the name of the bump list without spaces.
A list of those names can be found on the old bump list register.
Update #2.5 Oh, and, for better or worse, keywords are now global across all forums. For example, yesterday the moose keyword would have a different list of articles depending on which forum you were in--utter chaos. Today, moose lists all articles across all forums.
I'll try to map things as closely as possible. Bookmarks should continue to function, I dislike breaking URLs.
John Robinson kills the bump lists... women and minorities hardest hit
Can we please have one on "Environmentalism"?
Perhaps am thickheaded John,
Are you saying the prayer ping list, UFO ping list and all other ping list will no longer function if we paste them into the To: window?
What do you prefer we do, instead?
BTTT
... the only one I've ever done
;--)
Thanks for that. How will we add a post to the ahh... "keyword list"? Or maybe a better question would be how will the new 'feature' work as opposed to the old?
KWTTT! (I don't know, doesn't have the same 'ring' to it..... :)
What will this do to your opus list?
UH OH - we're toast (I can't think of Vast's full screen name that's why I didn't ping that particular subby)
Try 'anon' 1. At another time; later. Think Juliet in the balcony scene "I will anon."
If this saves the life of just one bump, it will all be worth it.
You don't make a comment to ping the list. Instead, at the bottom of the article text, where the topics and keywords are listed, you click "Click to Add Keyword" and type in the name of the bump-list.
Eventually we'll have user created topics, that will be more like little forums, with their own home page, list of members, etc., and these bump lists turned keywords can then become topics.
I almost "opused" two nights ago due to embarrassment. What a story I have to tell!
In other words you are going to make things even more confusing for us old farts, aren't you?????????
One of these days I will figure out what all these do-dads do.
are you logged in?
This is Bush's fault, isn't it?
Thank you John ....
Hopefully not too difficult. But now that you mention it, I should strive to maintain the old interface, using the "To" field as an alternative method. We'll aim for that level of compatibility and hope for the best.
Ahhhhh.
Thanks tons. I think I'm getting it. Thickheaded or not!
Much appreciated.
Eventually, one might wish for a page or three explaining PING lists VS BUMP/KEYWORD lists/FORUM lists somewhere on the home page or site map page or some such.
Ping lists are personally maintained lists of names of folk interested in specific topics.
And BUMP/KEYWORDS are transmorgafying . . . into forums/fora?
I think!
Bless you in your labors of love.
Thanks tons for all you do for us and FR!
Will this affect the GGG ping list?
