FReeper Race Bannon started this thread Thursday night, and it is now Friday afternoon and very few FReepers have seen it.
Many here at FR were skeptical of Cpl Hassoun because of the rather bizarre circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
The good news, brought by Race Bannon in this thread is that highly placed sources in the Marines have vouched for Cpl Hassoun's legitimate HERO status!
Me, too. But I can give him the benefit of the doubt; but there is allot not said. Who vouched for him, who verified his statements? let's not forget one of ours tossed a grenade into a tent of officers at the start of Iraqi Freedom: it is not impossible we have another here, is it? No offense to any FR member here, but the jury is still out on this one, IMO.
I agree. We'll have a good idea of what the deal was by how his case is finally settled. If he's court-martialled, he's almost assuredly guilty, as (at least in the Army) commanders are *very* loathe to press charges on someone in their command. It reflects poorly on the commander if a member of his or her command is court martialled.
OTOH, if he's more-or-less exonerated, or if no charges are ever pressed, I'd lay good odds that he was a plant. There's too much weirdness in the story just to be an "aww, shucks, I was just gonna go get some trim, and I went and got my dumb #ss kidnapped..." story.
In other words, I think the less we hear, the more likely it is that he was a plant. Just my $0.02.
Good news..."bump" for later...thanks!

God is in the business of answering prayers.
Blessed is the name of the Sovereign.
"I agree. Still WAY to many unanswered questions yet for me. It doesn't pass the smell test, at least with the information we have so far."
Yep, thats where I'm at on this. I doubt anybody thats been in the military is comfortable with whats been released to date. There are literally dozens of unanswered questions.
so, I'll wait and see what comes out next. But I refuse to accept anonymous sources regarding this story.
Rifleman Dodd?
Hate to be a wet blanket, but what is the source?
There are many unaddressed questions. This FReeper still has suspicions.
Careful. Asking logical and pertinent questions may call upon you the wrath of the ooh-rah chorus.
As another who was sceptical I'm glad to hear my dark thoughts were off base.
I am anxious to hear his tale. I hope it can be told......
Ollie?? where are you?
PING!!!
I also need to know these answers...
No - thank you for the ping!
ditto. I'm waiting for the TV movie and book deal.
Anybody got an official link to this yet? - ping.
Bump for later...
lol... We could get the young corporal to play himself, a la Audie Murphy in "To Hell and Back."
15th Infantry Regiment CAN DO bump!
I don't blame them for wanting to believe that Marine Corps training works. It is highly desirable that no Marine ever be a traitor. Death before dishonor. I hope Hassoun behaved honorably in all and if not, we should know.
I don't see how someone can leave aside the questions that you have raised unless we hear something a lot more substantial than this (and granted-more substantial proof may be classified). Until I do see something more substantive, the fact that he is even still alive-given what the jihadis have done to other prisoners-raises red flags to me.
