WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

with all due respect, i think i've expressed my thoughts quite clearly.
but i guess i don't have 'any idea what the group is for'
funny, i thought it was to put our heads together in the interest of keeping our homeland safe and secure. to me, that means discernment as much as it means anything else. but thanks for showing me i was wrong to point that out, i guess.

I'm not sure that a "eureka" moment is over the top. The concept of the deliberate blockage of excape routes is disconcerting. The reaction was appropriate for someone who grasped it for the first time.

upon rereading the thread, i somewhat agree. goethals is not a major thoroughfare for manhattan, however, and it would kind of make not that much sense for AQ to target it under the aegis of blocking escape routes.

Hatem Fariz, 31, pleaded innocent Wednesday to wire and mail fraud charges. Another hearing was set for Monday and prosecutors said they planned to ask that Fariz be held without bail.......
