June 10, 2004 -- NOW is a good time to look back at the landslide win that sent Ronald Reagan to the White House in 1980, because lots of analysts think 2004 could turn out the same way close for a long time and then suddenly breaking wide open. In 1980, the break came just days before the vote, when Democrat Jimmy Carter finally agreed to debate. Reagan came off as sunny instead of scary and when he admonished Carter with a smile, "There you go again," it was all over.Like President Bush, Carter faced voters nervous over both the economy and foreign policy and wondering whether it's time for a change in Carter's case, skyrocketing inflation at home plus the endless Iran hostage crisis.
But there's a big difference, since Carter kept getting bad news on both fronts, while Bush is starting to get good news on both the economy, with a surge in new jobs, and Iraq, with international support for the June 30 transfer of power.

The Jews who were not allowed to own land developed trade, partly because they understood that the ban on interest was meant to apply to the strictures on lending money that does not increase, that goes to feed someone.
Investment is different. It is working money and charity does not pertain in its use. The only reason to provide capital is gain. Without capital there is no economic development. The Christians followed the lead of the Jews and the modern world was born. An atheist society cannot survive except as a totalitarianism. It cannot prosper in a modern sense except as it copies practices of a prosperous, thus Judaeo Christian society.
The Dems are ALWAYS mad at something.
did Dole ever lead Clinton in ANY poll in '96?
Then how do you account for all of those Gore votes?
I wish the assasination plot story would break.
If our economy is up; and situation in Iraq better; W s optimism will win out over Kerry s pesimism and sad-sack face. No doubt about it!
I've noticed gas prices have started dropping in my area. Bad news for any Democrats pushing that issue.
Germany was a Christian culture that was taken over by an atheist regime. Adolph was not Christian and was specifically antiChristian. He desired to replace Christianity with Gemanic paganism. The Christian background of the German people produced the economic prosperity that allowed the existence of a country that could be exploited for conquest by a tyrant.
President Bush WILL win....bank on it! The rats will be on suicide watch election night!! :)
Me too, that's why I always bring that up. I was a registered republican before then, but I was apolitical. Sometimes I voted, sometimes I didn't. I didn't really think there was very much difference between the parties.
My outrage at the total corruption of the democrat party is still boiling, and as a result of their display during the recounts, I became a hardcore, broken-glass republican.
Like you, I cannot believe I'm an exception.
Unfortunately, the good work we do in Iraq bores most Americans, and so the media will broadcast the bad stuff, because we find that more interesting.
If Iraq blows wide open after June 30th, Bush will be in trouble. I know I'm not the only one who thinks Iraq is just a simmering Yugoslavia.
This is not meant to be racist (although because I just said that, that automatically means it will be considered racist, lol), but most of those people understand one thing - force. There is also a lot of religious hatred that Saddam kept under check through fear and force. That's why we've had problems, many Iraqis never felt they were really defeated. That's why if the Iraqi gov't is considered to be weak after June 30th, there will be serious problems. Even the Kurds, our best friends and allies in that area, are already grumbling about potential problems.
I'm hoping that the worst doesn't happen. I may not be 100% happy with Bush, but I sure as hell don't want the alternative.
There will be NO good news for Bush. The news is no longer driven by events, it is driven by politics. The partisan media will continue to craft the news by using any of the following techniques: 1) Report the bad news even if you have to recycle it again and again and again, i.e. the Aba Daba Doo prison freternity prank (read abuse)scandal; 2) the use of the "But technique" for example, the employment numbers were up today, BUT bad bad bad bad bad bad and more bad; 3) Change the subject to the next scandal or piece of bad news, economy going well, lets talk about Iraq, Iraq going well, lets talk about who leaked that Valerie Plame was a CIA operative after her husband had already done so; and finally, 4) the old poll game, i.e. lets talk about the latest poll we slanted as if it were news.
The Crusades were historically defensive in nature in that Islam was still expanding and had conquered the Holy Land of theChristian lands. The Crusades arose immediately from the perceived necessity to keep the Holy Places open to pilgrims. Pilgrimage was once almost as important to Christians as it is for Moslems. Added to that was the constant piracy of the Moslem states which was deemed as needing to be stopped. The effects of the fighting were the effects of fighting as it occured in the middle ages everywhere and still occur in Asia, i.e. wholesale slaughter for those who resist.
We can't ever forget that more voters voted for Gore than Bush in 2000.
The ecomomy is already up - way up. The situation in Iraq is already better.
This election will turn on events yet to happen and Al Quaeda will play a role.
Our side should be putting out a poster with those two pictures andsome text that doesn't refer to dress but to abilities to deal with crises and such.
On another thread, the collected polls do not reflect a landslide at all. They have Kerry winning. We have a disconnect somehow and I hope the polls are wrong.
Bin Laden is still dead. Perhaps we can find some bits of bone in the moountains and display triumphantly the DNA report.
Voter fraud could tip this election -- big time.
Kerry has a serious pomposity problem; I think the debates will hurt him. For better or worse, the presidency is largely a popularity contest. The only race in modern history in which the "sunnier" candidate lost was in 1968, when Nixon beat Humphrey, largely because of the violence and chaos at the Democratic convention. The Dems seemed out of control.
