Thanks for the link. :)
My daughter just finished viewing President Reagan at the Rotunda. She said it was an awesome experience and a life changing moment. Another young person was standing next to her in line...a young man who had driven to DC from the midwest...he was a proud republican....a true patriot...and wore his dress suit the entire time. My daughter said that after the viewing he returned immediately to the midwest...Now, that is conviction.
Fox is reporting a wait of 3 to 5 hours and several blocks. Interviewing people who came from Indiana only for this.....
I have the very distinct feeling that she just wanted to lay her head on the flag and cry. She just kept patting and smoothing the flag. It broke my heart.
All seemed right with the world back then, with Reagan and Thatcher. Like the good guys always won.
It was real pre-Clinton.
Quite a testament to the President and to the man.
Is the Pope Catholic? Of course there are Freepers criticizing the events. The casket wasn't placed with geometric precision in the rotunda, the sentinel sailor was standing further from his corner of the casket than the others, people are wearing t-shirts and flip-flops to view the casket, Carl Levin was sitting down, the wreaths around the casket are "sissified", blah, blah, blah, waaah, waaah, waaah, shut up, no you shut up, etc.....it wouldn't be a live thread without it.
Sweet home FreeRepublic...
Hey, Miz. Nice to talk to you during this historic time.
I agree, the media would see that, but it would be easy to ignore and portray it down the road as people just turning up not out of any real affection or affinity for the man, but today it was made so clear it will be hard (though they'll still try) to sell that line. They just do not want to admit how very aligned with Reagan this country was and remains.
Chris Matthews tonight flat out said he thought Reagan would be remembered as more controversial. I predict when Clinton goes Chris will be shocked to find out that Clinton is really considered controversial. To them up is down and down is up.
I'm so glad she got to go!
Did she say how many people she thinks are there?
People coming here from all over with just that purpose. Wish we could relly record how many have driven all night as some of those I heard interviewed.
And all done without bussing in the masses like the rats have to do!
At least once IIRC, although in a place where no one could have objected to it. Early in the 1980 campaign he and John Connally were the only Republicans interested in getting the endorsement of an evangelical group whose name unfortunately escapes me.
Connally spoke first, and made some weak joke about being a Methodist in a room full of Baptists, or some such. Reagan gave a speech describing how incomprehensibly moving it was that Jesus had died for him as an individual. Apparently the delegates were profoundly moved, and the rest is history.
Well put! :~D
Sgt. York, and the other horses in the honor guard, all do this sort of thing for a living. They've heard many 21-gun salutes and low-level flyovers in their day. The horses picked for events such as this are picked for qualities like that. They're the best of the best.
Huh??
They are showing video from earlier tonight
I'm so glad she got to go and I'm realllll happy for that young man from the midwest. Did she mention how long she had to wait ?
Good point! I hadn't recalled all the bussing Dems do but it is true for what they manufacture in this town like the MMM which is consistently over estimated.
I sure you are correct, no doubt. However we shouldn't lose sight that Reagan was an animal lover, and had a soft spot for dogs and horses. The man would have smiled if it had been an old mare with an attitude.
This is what made the man great.
