Whoopie for them, they have doubled their first estimate. They could get many more through but they don't seem to be doing that. Wish I knew whether that is by design. The people on this thing are very used to going through searches and don't take forever. The restrictions are not as strict as they were at the Library.

It is a very wet 84 out there right now!. Steamy as a Louisiana bayou. People will be waiting all night. It's likely nice to get into the cool building.

If you ever have the chance to see the Royal Argyles, the queens piper core, I highly recomend it. They go on tour from time to time.

Did you see her? Did you see her curtsey? I wish you had snagged that!

Every now and then your temper must be lost in order be properly re-calibrated. This could be one of those times.

I loved this whole ceremony. I thought is was wonderfully done. The perfection of military honors just nails me. The tradition and history that it forces recalled... beyond that...

Nothing else matters. None of it. All else is petty foolishness. It's all about the caisson. The riderless horse. The 21 gun salute. The 21 jet flyover. The changing of the guard at the rotunda.

It's important to remember that this isn't about us. It's about him, and what he meant.

Right. It was nowhere like what the dems do. It wasn't a catastrophe or anything. But his delivery style was fast and political.

That is just how Stevens is as far as I can tell. I recently heard him in the Senate trying to bring perspective back to the ridiculous media coverage and Dem demands resulting from the prisoner abuse. I'm sure he still bristles at old hostilities and media portrayals. Yes, he could have been more eloquent but not more honest or passionate in his admiration.

I haven't been watching C-Span so I don't have a feel for the pace of the crowd but they may be having a late night lull, or shift changes, etc. I'm well familiar with the steamy heat of a Louisiana bayou :) and that may have something to do with it, too. LOL.

The horse's name is "Sergeant York." An ex-racehorse, native American breed, coal black, very gentle, donated to the military IIRC. Why every animal on four hooves didn't completely freak out when the jets did their flyby is a complete mystery to me.

They were claiming on ABC radio news coverage that the special unit that does military funerals actually appears at about 1000 ceremonies a year (roughly 3 per day). Hard to believe, isn't it?

I don't know any more about it, but he was. There were no chairs in the rotunda except those provided for the family.

You can see him here toward the left, in a wheelchair.

Compared to the population of D.C. yes. But, I have seen many non-whites walking through.
