By the way, did you know that the lyrics of "Amazing Grace" can be sung to tunes of both "Gilligan's Island" and the Coca Cola song "I'd like to teach the world to sing..." LOL

And to "House of the Rising Sun". Try it sometime...our church's youth choir did it all the time.

I just got home, so I missed the wave. :-(

But me and a bunch of mechanics watched some of it at Jiffy Lube. :-)

Great work - thank you! From my computer screen, it looks more like a pipe of some sort than a bird.

The music in John Ford's westerns are some of my favorites..."She wore a Yellow Ribbon", and the one from the "Horse Soldiers"..

Amazing Grace and the Star Spangled Banner are two songs that give me a lump in the throat EVERY TIME.

I know some mechanics who would've been in tears - were they touched, too?

The president is required to plan his funeral the first week in office. All these great plans are Ronald's doing...

I loved how Nancy's escort stepped back and allowed her to wave and receive the applause! Very thoughtful touching moment.

Try it, it works. I don't know if you are an active churchgoer or not, but in church music terms, the two sets of lyrics have the same meter: 8.6.8.6 (many hymnals list the meter under the name of the "tune" or melody).

What it means is that the first line of the tune has eight syllables, the second six etc.

Therefore, in theory, if you have a set of song lyrics, you can sing it to any tune that has matching meter. For example, the song "All Hail the Pow'r of Jesus' Name" can be sung to tunes "Coronation" (which is 4/4) or "Diadem" (which is 3/4) but for the latter tune you have to repeat some of words (let angels prostrate fall, let angels prostrate fall)

Come to think of it, "All Hail the Power" ALSO has this 8.6.8.6. meter...

Nancy saw Ronnie only as her husband. I doubt she understood that he was OURS.......in ways that cannot be explained.

For flags that can't be lowered, such as those on many homes, the American Legion says attaching a black ribbon or streamer to the top of the flag is an acceptable alternative. The ribbon should be the same width as a stripe on the flag and the same length as the flag.

For a wall-mounted flag, three black mourning bows should be attached to the top edge of the flag, one at each corner and one in the center.

Does this help any?

Yes! I had to get my car inspected before I was arrested -- and I have to say I was quite surprised -- about 15 people crammed into the waiting room to watch; they kept saying, "We can do your car right now," and I just said, this is fine....we all watched the ceremony at the airfield.

I was glad they were all so interested!

The first funeral in my large half-Scottish family that featured a lone piper playing "Amazing Grace" was my uncle's in 1989.

BTW, every single one of Emily Dickinson's poems can be sung to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas."

Yes. John Ford was very careful in his choice of music. Invariable very appropriate to the visuals. However, I can't recall him using Amazing Grace. I think it was because in the mid-century Amazing Grace wasn't well known. For some reason it has enjoyed quite a resurgence. I wish I knew the reason for the resurgence plus around when it happened.

I'm not sure... when I watch the video in slow, it looks like you can see a flash of it above the left wing before you see it looking like it is falling below the plane. I recorded a video, but have no idea how to post it!
