I presume others are watching.
FYI..several years ago, PBS did an hour show on "Amazing Grace"..the history of the melody, the lyrics, and how it waxed and waned in popularity..twas a marvelous hour, and I believe you can order a tape...wel worth it..
Watch your Tivo and see if something fell off the plane.
Did anyone notice what the Marine did as the casket was put onto the rollers in the container to move it onto the plane? He brought both his white gloved closed hands together, palms facing each other. Special meaning?
Yes, that's Merv... I forgot to add captions, but the rest are pretty self-explanatory ;)
Actually, I think "Amazing Grace" has been played LESS in the last 30 years than it was prior to the liberal "American crackup" of the 1960s.
Our folks in the service worship Reagan, there will be nothing but respectful and heartfelt responses across the board. He save them - people forget that it was a very low thing in this society to be a Vietnam vet before Reagan. If you were not in the defense industry you lied about it. He changed all of that and pretty much from his first day in office.
wondering that myself......
Heard it played by a lone bagpipper at a firefighters funeral, talk about tears.
I don't recall Richardson's office releasing a press notification about his travel to California to pay his respects to President Reagan. Maybe it was genuine, maybe he's just setting the stage for his V.P. run with clinton in '08
Slightly related topic, but I read somewheres that they only allow F-15's to be used for flyovers over DC becuase they're two engined planes...minimizes the risk of an engine failure..
The Boy Scout of America Venturing Crew 369 says "If your flag is on an outrigger flagpole or mounted on a wall and cannot be flown at half-staff, it is appropriate to drape a purple and black mourning ribbon across the flag" but there's no picture.
I can't immediately find proper flag etiquette for mourning, other than half-staff.
I saw it but I don't remember the details as to when and why Amazing Grace soared back into popularity. I don't believe it was played much before the 1970s (or maybe the 1980s) for a long period.
That was where I lost it, too.
John Newton was the writer, I believe.
By the way, did you know that the lyrics of "Amazing Grace" can be sung to tunes of both "Gilligan's Island" and the Coca Cola song "I'd like to teach the world to sing..." LOL
