Why aren't vehicles like these installed with GPS?

GPS is a passive receiver that provides position, altitude, time, heading and speed. It doesn't transmit anything. You must provide some kind of telemetry device that can be interrogated over a radio link. LoJack devices are the most common telemetry devices that can be installed to assist vehicle recovery. That assumes that your local law enforcement has LoJack receivers installed in the squad cars. San Diego has them. Pocatello does not.

Thanks for the info on the truck stop. Any knew word?

Folks, we've got to be prepared for the worst. If anyone hears or knows of any type of attack in progress, be on the look out for more. When we get hit, it'll be multiple strikes in multiple cities.

It will be important to get the work out as fast as possible so others may have a fighting chance.

Well, that is the type of gizmo I meant. And I do think all these types of vehicles, ie., first responders and transit, should have them.

Thanks for explaining that.

Interesting pics at the link too. Not a tanker, it's got a box trailer on it. BTW, I like your new tagline.

BTW, LoJack is an active transmitter. It is activated from the law enforcement dispatch office. It transmits a unique code. The LEO is essentially engaged in a transmitter hunt with device specific DF gear. It is better than GPS because it does not need a view of the sky. A stolen vehicle from San Diego was located in the living room of a house in Tijuana. Recovering a vehicle from Tijuana is a rare event. It is usually a nice car or SUV that has been stolen for the use of the Federales. If you attempt to retrieve your property from them, you'll spend eternity in a Mexican prison. If the "new" owner is a member of the drug cartel, you'll just end up dead.

Trust me. With children and animals, I will never own a car worth battling a Mexican Cartel over ;)

So then OnStar is different than LoJack? OnStar is GPS and hackable:

Were you able to get rid of them? I had spybot do it's "fix the problem" thing but the files were still there in explorer. Deleted them there and then did a major defrag. Not sure what else to do.

Police are looking for:

* A newly refurbished 1996 Freuhauf tanker.
* It had "T-K Transport" written on the side when it was stolen, (though that may have been removed by whoever stole it).
* It had a chrome tank.
* It had the New Jersey license plate T85 2SC.

This is a pic of what the truck looks like

This is the truck in Alabama:

Not the same unfortunately.

I am still on the first cup of coffee, and not all here, but
when I saw this post, it clicked a memory.

I sleep with a radio on, sometime during the night, I heard something that made me wake up and say so that's what the 29th is all about.....LOL

I have the leftover impression, that one of the top Iraq men will be killed, to keep him from taking over on the 30th.

Radio AP news just said that there is now a one mile "mandatory evacuation of the warehouse fire and that the people within 5 miles have been asked to leave the area.

"fire to cover theft of chemicals"

Wouldn't be the first time. That is what makes it so scary.

So then OnStar is different than LoJack? OnStar is GPS and hackable.

First generation OnStar is based on a 3-watt Motorola AMPS (analog) cellphone, a Motorola embedded GPS and an embedded CPU with an interface to the vehicle bus (to unlock doors). The user or the OnStar agent can initiate contact with the cellphone. While the analog call is up, the agent can interrogate the current car location. If the car is in a location that has no view of the sky, the OnStar unit will transmit the last good fix before it lost view of the sky. That is usually good enough to find a car stashed in a garage.

OnStar also includes an airbag deployment sensor that automatically calls an OnStar agent if you get into an accident. The GPS query assists OnStar in sending emergency responders to the scene of an accident.

Trying to find info on the fire in Atlanta and what started it, so far just a pre-dawn fire?????????

My mother has been saying they found empty boxes (similar to the suitcases) around. I couldn't find in print so I brushed it off (mother you know). Anyway I ran across this it is an old article but I don't remember it in the news.

Substance Causes Concern at Office

The Lanier Worldwide offices.

The evacuated Wal-Mart.

Web Editor: Tracey Christensen
Last Modified: 5/18/2004 2:23:12 PM

A hazardous materials team responded early Tuesday afternoon to an office building on Parklake Drive in DeKalb County. A substance apparently caused skin irritations to six employees of Lanier Worldwide, who have since been transported to DeKalb Medical Center for an evaluation, according to Fire Lt. Eric Jackson.

The workers were immediately quarantined inside an office while awaiting for the arrival of emergency responders. The hazardous materials crews suited up and entered the building, which was not evacuated.

A short time earlier, police evacuated a Gwinnett County Wal-Mart because of concerns over a suspicious substance. Workers at the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road store became concerned when their paychecks turned up with an unknown substance on them.

Everyone exposed to the checks appeared to be fine. UPS, which delivered the checks, has been notified.

Motorola? The recent hackable, jammable Motorola? The Clinton connect Motorola?

Interesting!
