LM here.
It's been a while since we had a thread along these lines.
I can tell from comments I am seeing in threads, on abuse reports, and in Freepmail that some people are unhappy with various policies and their implementations by the staff here.
I've seen allegations that certain factions are picked on. I've seen allegations that the moderators have killed activism. I've heard rumors that we killed Kenny, and even that we killed the radio star. I see certain personality conflicts acting up, and know that one (or both) sides in it feel that we aren't doing what we should.
So let's open this can of worms.
This thread is for making your grievances heard. If you think something stinks or is wrong, make your case here. Back it up with facts. Let the audience at large weigh in on your evidence.
I'll read the thread. Jim will too in all likelihood. So will the other moderators. Depending upon how well you make your point, and depending on if you can convince Jim, me, the other moderators, and/or the world, maybe you can change things. And if you don't, then it might make you feel better to have vented, so it won't make this thread a total loss.
I'm not going to reply to this thread for quite a while. Rather, I am going to sit back and watch to try and get a feel for the general tenor. I encourage those who are both happy and unhappy with things to particpate in this thread.
Let's rock.
Let me throw together a little experiment to see if this is the case.
I'll ping you when it is ready.
Too late.
Willie had some good points, that were wiped off and resulted in No Replies. As a result, the Bush-Bots get free reign, and to hell with the truth.
I don't agree with a lot of Willies posts -- his ideas on Light Rail are cost-prohibitive and destructive to neighborhoods (IMO) -- but his ideas on Power Generation and Desalinization are on the mark.
I currently support Bush -- but only because the alternative is so much worse -- but make no mistake I am still supporting the lesser of two evils. Willie's been around quite a while, likely a lot longer than most of the Mods. Maybe there should be a notation based on Sign-up Date and Posting History that will flag the Mods prior to a post deletion. I find too many of the old-timers post infrequently, as the board has become a Republican Stronghold instead of a Constitutional one.
If you don't get anything, then the computer you are using is filtering out things with a URL that contains "chat".
I am not really sure there is anything we could do about it, other than changing the code to use something other than "chat" for General Interest- and I don't think that is an easy change.
Sorry, wish I could be more of a help, but at least now we know what the issue is.
You're right...I think people do want Front Page to be their de facto Breaking News. I view Front Page as being stuff that you'd find in the newspaper that isn't cutting edge, hot-off-the-press news that's happening NOW, but isn't specifically on the Editorial or Religion pages. News or items of interest, but not fluff. I'd like Caption-A-Rama to go into either Front Page--as it is political/topical humor, or at least into Editorial/Opinion. Thanks.
Upon receiving my reprieve, I promptly dropped the offending tagline in its entirety. I switched over some weeks later to an anti-Kerry tagline. Within a few days, someone posted an answer to a month-old comment I had made with the "wetback" comment tagline, and by a strange coincidence, while I was answering that poster (using the new anti-Kerry tagline), the same moderator objected to my tagline. I thought he/she was objecting to the anti-Kerry one, since I had dropped the other one about a month earlier, and I proceeded to sarcastically lambaste the moderator for objecting to the tone of the anti-Kerry tagline.
It became obvious to me what had happened after the reason for my next suspension came up, when I tried to post, but by that time, my avenues of appeal were closed shut. My suggestion is that some sort of appeals link be made available for especially longtime members who feel that perhaps there might have been some sort of misunderstanding. Of course, I wouldn't give such a thing to the trolls, but anybody who's been a Freeper for at least a year should have a chance to at least state a case, or clear up a misunderstanding.
However, if there is a pattern of Willie's posts being pulled unfairly, then your points may have resonance.
Willie? Which was it?
