Republican Sen. John McCain allowed a glimmer of hope Wednesday for Democrats fantasizing about a bipartisan dream team to defeat President Bush. McCain said he would consider the unorthodox step of running for vice president on the Democratic ticket in the unlikely event he received such an offer from the presidential candidate.
"John Kerry (news - web sites) is a close friend of mine. We have been friends for years," McCain said Wednesday when pressed to squelch speculation about a Kerry-McCain ticket. "Obviously I would entertain it."
But McCain emphasized how unlikely the whole idea was.
"It's impossible to imagine the Democratic Party seeking a pro-life, free-trading, non-protectionist, deficit hawk," the Arizona senator told ABC's "Good Morning America" during an interview about illegal steroid use. "They'd have to be taking some steroids, I think, in order to let that happen."
McCain gained a reputation as a party maverick who appeals to independent voters during his 2000 race against Bush for the Republican nomination. This year, McCain has campaigned for the president and said he would continue to do so.
Unlike some other Republican senators, he hasn't railed against Kerry, a fellow Vietnam veteran. McCain called the Kerry-Bush contest "the nastiest campaign so far that we have seen" and said he preferred campaigning for candidates instead of against their opponents.

"Very upset about Soros"The guy who wrote a part severely limiting freedom of speech INTO that CFR bill?? The CFR bill that has the loophole being exploited by Kerry? You mean he really believes in stamping out EVERYONE'S right to freedom of speech, not just conservatives'? Oh c'mon.
"He had a very hard time burying the hatchet with Kerry over what happened to him as a prisoner of war, I don't think he buried it that deep."
He was on Kerry's POW/MIA Affairs committee, which supressed evidence of the existance of POWs and missing soldiers in Vietnam after 1975. Instead they pushed normalization of trade relations with Hanoi through. McCain was also on the comittee - with Kerry - that killed the Viet Nam Human Rights Bill, the aim of which was to tie non-humanitarian aid to proof of progress on human rights.
I don't know WHAT he did with that hatchet. The man is damaged goods. They broke him over there with the help of people like Kerry. Maybe he has Stockholm Syndrome.

Don't be confused. I was watching the interview this morning with McCain and he did state everything in the article but he also stated he was supporting Bush for re-election.

Seems to me if Kerry and McCain were elected we would have to keep an eye on
Presidential Succession.
Why? Because both Kerry and McCain could have cancer. Right now. Today. Neither one of these guys looks very healthy to me. McCain has a chunk out of his head and his cheek looks like he just got hit with a baseball bat. Kerry is gaunt and goodness knows what he really looks like under all that makeup, hair dye and after all that botulism toxin that has been drilled into his head.

McVAIN has had his anger against Bush since he was beat out by Bush. He is not a REPUBLICAN ... Who ever is getting this going is just trying to stir the POT!

Now they've been close friends for years?I think that's a misprint. I think what McCain actually said was, "Sen. Kerry and I have been fiends for years..."

I heard the quote.
He said he SAW NO CIRCUMSTANCE UNDER WHICH HE WOULD ACCEPT SUCH AN OFFER.
Newsmax is selectively quoting. (what a schlock, er, shock)

McCain is not much of a major disappointment to me. I'd written this poop off years ago, as I'm sure many others have.

RINO McLame might as well go over to the RATS. He's been one all along anyway.
