Democratic presidential frontrunner John Kerry is planning a response to a DRUDGE REPORT exclusive which first revealed the frantic behind-the-scenes drama surrounding a woman who recently fled the country, reportedly at the prodding of Kerry!

The nature and details of a claimed two-year relationship, beginning in the Spring of 2001, between a young woman and Kerry is at the center of serious investigations at several media outlets.

After being approached by a top news producer, the woman fled to Africa, where she remains, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

Unlike the Monica Lewinsky drama, which first played out publicly in this space, with audio tapes, cigar and a dress, the Kerry situation has posed a challange to reporters investigating the claims.

"There is no lawsuit testimony this time [like Clinton with Paula Jones]," a top source said Thursday night. "It is hard to prove."

A close friend of the woman first approached a reporter late last year claiming fantastic stories -- stories that now threaten to turn the race for the presidency on its head.

Kerry is scheduled to appear on IMUS IN THE MORNING on Friday. Later he is scheduled to join General Wesley Clark, who, in an off-the-record conversation with a dozen reporters earlier this week, plainly stated: "Kerry will implode over an intern issue."

Reporters who witnessed Clark making the stunning comments marvel at the General's reluctance to later confirm they were spoken -- only to later endorse Kerry for the nomination!

Mrs. Heinz is 65 years old. If this story about Mr. Kerry Heinz is true, it's got to hurt bad. And Mrs. Heinz apparently wants to be a young chick via Botox injections - sorry old babe. Try being a dignified 65 year old, accept your age, and learn from it. Remember also that all the Botox in the world won't help a 65 year old body. Mr. & Mrs. Botox - so very pathetic.

...but there needs to be some additionally troubling circumstance that affects him as a public official.

A. Being Bobbited by Theresa would disqualify him.

B. A credible threat of a divorce of a sitting President would be entirely unprecedented. I doubt he could be elected without his wife's support on this & I have seen little mention of her as being supportive.

I marvel at a "man" who can weather leaving a woman to die in a car, giving a 1980 Democratic Convention speech high as a kite on cocaine, then later calls black people "Neanderthals"...and gets away with all that because he's a Kennedy and his politics are right.

Sen. John Kerry flatly denied swirling rumors about an extramarital affair yesterday, assuring backers that his campaign was not vulnerable to a sudden sex scandal.

The press is trying to blame this on the GOP. Aaron Brown on CNN hinted as much last night and there was a thread about his reporting last night on FR.

Take time to remind the press via e-mail that Democrats are behind the smear.

1. Chris Lehane, former Clinton staffer, has been shopping this around for weeks according to the Congressional Quarterly.

2. Wesley Clark told 3 reporters last week that Kerry had a bimbo problem. When confronted with that this week, Clark was seen yelling "it was supposed to be off the record."

3. Al Gore wanted Kerry as his running mate in 2000 but it was determined Kerry had too much baggage in the bimbo department.

I am hoping they are giving their best shots at the President early on and will be left holding nothing to fire at him at the last minute like they did last time.

In that case, an early test of whether I'm right will be to see how long delegates to the DNC in Boston plan to stay. If they've all booked rooms through early November we'll know it'll be a long and seesawing nomination process. :)

It might also hurt him with many female senior voters (although the men may see it in a different light!).
