SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

I think so. NATO is not the UN, don't get me going on the UN :-). NATO is full of politicians hence alot of the nonsense that makes the news. But, when you get to the "next layer down", below the politicians, NATO is a group of countries such as America, Great Britain, Italy, etc. that pledged to work together and essentially watch each others back's. That next layer down, management if you will, is a lot of current and former soldiers who are loyal to their countries and value freedom. NATO has been a way to band together and work toward a common goal to protect freedom.

As with anything that deal with the machinations of governments things bog down or get behind the times. That has happened to NATO. But, they are making changes and with those changes I believe they will continue to be a worthy organization. Just my humble opinion :-)

Russia's Nuclear Shield
Moscow ARMEYSKIY SBORNIK, Dec 95 No 12,
(Signed to press 25 Nov 95) pp 7-11
by Colonel General Igor Sergeyev, CINC Strategic Missile Troops

In the past training year forces in the Strategic Missile Troops were upgraded by introducing missile regiments armed with the Topol missile complex to the order of battle and placing them on alert duty. Work continued on creating the modernized Topol-M missile complex.
Today the Strategic Missile Troops [SMT] are the most powerful and most combat-effective branch of the Russian Federation Armed Forces, the main component of strategic nuclear forces, and a real guarantor of national security. SMT nuclear missile weapons give fullest consideration to Russia's geostrategic position and the directions and scale of threats, they are distinguished by global reach and enormous destructive power, and they objectively equalize the correlation of economic, technical, demographic and other parameters of state strength that do not favor Russia.

MOSCOW -- Since the collapse of the Soviet Union nearly a decade ago, the West has been concerned about the fate of Russia's vast stockpile of nuclear weapons, materials and expertise.

Russia's Nuclear and Missile Technology Assistance to Iran
By Michael Jasinski

Russian assistance for the Iranian nuclear program has long been an irritant in the U.S.-Russian relations. The revelations concerning Iran's hitherto unknown uranium enrichment efforts, which propelled Iran's nuclear ambitions to the center of the world's attention, added a new dimension to the controversy. In a report released on June 18, 2003, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) criticized Iran for failing to report a number of nuclear activities. Nevertheless, the IAEA did not impose sanctions on Iran, though it did enjoin it to sign an additional protocol pursuant to its nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) obligations, which would enable the IAEA to inspect any suspected nuclear site in Iran, rather than just declared nuclear sites. These developments have signaled a new phase in the long U.S.-Russian dispute over Russia's nuclear projects in Iran.

India and Pakistan: Nuclear Capabilities
India and Pakistan are rivals and have maintained hostile relations since they gained independence from the British in 1948. Three times these two nations have gone to war, twice over disputes about Kashmir. The two have been involved in a conventional arms race since the beginning, allocating huge percentages of their budgets to defense.

While war has always been imminent between these two countries, the threat to the entire region has never been as great as it is now. The threat of a conventional war is always cause for political tension in any region and it is no secret that India and Pakistan have amassed huge stockpiles of conventional arsenal.

But as of May 1998, it is clear that the threat is much greater to the region should India and Pakistan embark on another war. It is evident these two rival nations are now also capable of producing and using nuclear weapons.

U.S. uncertain of Iran's nuclear weapon capabilities

January 17, 2000
Web posted at: 9:24 p.m. EST (0224 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. officials say they can no longer rule out the possibility that Iran may have acquired the elements for a nuclear bomb on the black market in the former Soviet Union

http://edition.cnn.com/2000/US/01/17/cia.iran.bomb.02/

Moreover, the gigantic size of Russia's nuclear complex means that Russia could still produce new nuclear weapons at Cold War rates that no other country could match, should political and economic circumstances radically change.

In short, the United States has several urgent reasons to collaborate with Russia on the economic stabilization and downsizing of its nuclear complex-a downsizing that is also in Russia's interests.

http://www.bullatomsci.org/issues/1998/so98/so98bunn.html

How is Russian military might, both conventional and nuclear, faring in these circumstances? The nadir of its erosion has been reached. Its restoration to a minimum level of effectiveness has begun. Without a strong army, navy and air force, among other factors, Russia will disintegrate, following in the footsteps of the Soviet Union. External circumstances are equally important for Russia's long-term security.

Subsidizing Russia's Nuclear Scientists
By J. Michael Waller
Published: Monday, April 5, 1999

Nearly six years ago, Congress and the Clinton administration launched a visionary scheme to help the scientists and engineers who had been part of making and designing the Soviet weapons of mass destruction to put their skills to civilian use. The goal was to prevent them from working for rogue regimes such as Iran, Iraq or North Korea. As this Department of Energy effort progressed, the administration assured Congress of success upon success.

Communism is alive and well in Russia!

Karl Marx is considered the Father of Communism. He urged the workers of the world to unite.

In a communist system, the government controls the production and distribution of goods.

Warning: Pravda

The 21st century has inherited a number of unsettled problems from the 20th century: terrorism, which has already gained an incredible scale; the countless number of hot spots on the planet; and the threat of a biological war. The world isn-t ready for a biological attack, and the anthrax scare in America was an obvious confirmation of this. The mass media were so focused on the problem, which in its turn caused a mass psychosis among the population. A biological weapon is an instrument for big-scale politics, and the USA openly demonstrates it (Washington thinks that the notorious ?axis of evil¦ countries hold biological weapons.)

No evidence is required; accusations are hurled at a country, and then its up to this country to prove its innocence. This is happening to Iraq, North Korea, Iran, and Cuba. This phobia is actively exploited not only by the political establishment, as Hollywood is also playing the game. You-ve probably also heard about the new fashion trends: people have started wearing ties with the biological cultures of anthrax, smallpox, plague, etc.

"Acid attack on boy who 'refused sex with Muslim cleric'"
The Telegraph (UK) ^ | 1/08/04 | Massoud Ansari

Posted on 02/07/2004 8:03:25 PM PST by saquin

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "In his hospital bed last week, 16-year-old Abid Tanoli sat listless and alone, half of his body covered by burns that all but destroyed both his eyes and left his face horribly disfigured.

The teenager talked, with difficulty, of how his life had been destroyed since the fateful day in June 2002 when he refused to have sex with his teacher at a religious school in Pakistan.

The boy was horrifically injured in an acid attack after he rebuffed the Muslim cleric's sexual advances. Now, he has alarmed Pakistan's powerful religious establishment by pressing charges against his alleged assailants."

"I also believe Russia would ally with NK "

==

No doubt, IF THEY THOUGHT THEY COULD WIN.

I am not crediting the Russians with warm fuzzy good will towards us, but I am crediting them with some brains. Why do you think they never attacked us during the cold war, it's because, despite of all their rhetoric, they knew they couldn't win. In their current situation, they would have much less chance. They are smart enough to figure out, that their interest lies in building up a Western style economy.

The N. Koreans, and militant Islamic leaders of Iran, and the terrorists, of course, have no common sense whatsoever, they are in love with destruction.

That is why I don't think we have much to fear from the Russians. Of the civilized nations, I think France hates us more than any other, by at least an order of magnitude, and they aren't as smart as the Russians. I wouldn't put it past them to actively help the terrorists, just to destroy the US.
