SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

If a democrat goes into office, we have had it. Our Nation will never recover and we'd all best start learning how to speak Chinese, or Russian.

Or Korean.

All the discussion of NK on this thread reminded me of this poster -- I can't tell you the chill it gave me when I first saw it a couple of years ago. (The US Capitol dome shown as the target of these NK missiles.)

Arming Red China

Last week, French President Jacques Chirac used the visit of Chinese
President Hu Jintao as an opportunity to call for an end to the EU's ban on
selling arms to the Communist state. During the meetings in Paris, French
Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin said, "Our feeling is that the
embargo is out of date as relations between Europe and China improve."
Referring to China's role in the world, he added that Beijing is "a
privileged partner and a responsible one." The French foreign minister
neglected to mention that the original reason for the embargo had nothing to
do with Beijing's relationship with Europe. It was a response to the
crackdown on democratic activists in Tiananmen Square in 1989. In this
light, there is no justification to lift the arms ban because the political
and human-rights situation in China continues to deteriorate.
The Bush administration has lobbied European governments not to allow arms
sales to the Communists. Lack of Chinese progress on human rights is a major
reason, but there is also the Taiwan factor. European weapons sales would be
dangerous for Taiwan because the embargo is important for the island
democracy to be able to defend itself. Its security is based on its ability
to prevent the People's Liberation Army (PLA) from crossing the Taiwian
Strait for an invasion. Staying technologically ahead of the PLA is critical
to the effectiveness of this defensive posture. European arms sales to
Beijing - especially Mirage jet fighters and other advanced avionics
equipment from France, which are under negotiation - would undercut Taiwan's
important technological edge.
During Mr. Hu's visit, Monsieur Chirac criticized Taipei for stoking
tensions with mainland China. It was overlooked that it is Beijing that has
450 missiles aimed at Taiwan, and not the other way around. It was tacitly
acknowledged, however, that the rationale for China's military expansion is
to counter American power in the world - a goal that France is now
supporting. Both Messers. Hu and Chirac referred to the partnership between
their countries as "strategic," and the French Foreign Ministry mentioned
the leaders' "convergence of visions" about the need for "a multi-polar
world" in which their nations are not subjected to "a uni-polar American
worldview." Beijing's military budget has been growing at an annual rate of
17 percent to make the challenge.
At the behest of France and Germany, the European Union is reconsidering the
arms embargo on China. The Dutch support lifting the ban, and other nations
are lining up to follow suit. Many of the same governments opposed U.S.
efforts to oust Saddam Hussein in Iraq. There is now a growing pattern of
America's old allies in old Europe working to counter - if not undermine -
U.S. interests, American security and human rights around the world. The EU
desire to arm Communist China is another example of that.

Someone has asked for facts. I have posted facts.

Here are some more facts which are verifiable.

http://www.jrnyquist.com/war_preps.htm

Russian war preparations

Moscow has outfitted hundreds of fighter-bombers with additional fuel tanks and in-flight refueling capability, augmenting Russia's intercontinental strike capability.

Russia has been constructing large numbers of military transport aircraft for foreign customers who do not exist.

Russia has been building and accumulating dry docks even though, at the moment, no foreign customers for them exist.

Russia has recently fielded a new battle tank; a new state-of-the-art fighter; super-quiet submarines which can engage sea, land and air targets simultaneously; a new attack helicopter and sniper rifle.

Russia has developed a revolutionary new rifle-fired infantry weapon, the so-called vacuum grenade, which can give a single Russian soldier the firepower of a 155mm howitzer. Russia has begun joint production of this weapon with the Chinese.

Russia now emphasizes the production of mobile ICBMs like the Topol-M, which are designed to evade satellite detection, permitting the Russians to cheat on arms control agreements.

Russia continues to develop biological and chemical weapons, sometimes with the use of U.S. funds. According to recent defectors, Russia is now working on a super-plague weapon.

Russian diplomacy is clearly attempting to build an anti-American alliance which includes countries like China, North Korea, Cuba, Iraq, Libya, South Africa, Syria, Venezuela, Vietnam, Iran and India.

Russian Spetsnaz commandos continue to train with suitcase nukes against U.S. targets.

Russia is hoarding strategic metals which are vital for keeping up war production through the first months of a nuclear world war.

Russia is importing more food than needed for domestic consumption. At the same time, Russia has constructed huge underground nuclear-proof food storage facilities.

Russia has developed an impressive engineering rescue capability, organized into special military formations positioned outside large cities, for rescuing citizens trapped beneath rubble in the event of a nuclear attack.

Recent Russian movies and pop songs depict Americans as stupid animals who deserve to die. In keeping with this theme, NATO is depicted as an aggressive alliance, sometimes likened to Hitler's Third Reich.

Russia is building huge underground cities, like the one at Yamantau Mountain in the Urals. These cities are built more than a thousand feet into the earth and are able to withstand direct nuclear attack.

Russia has been modernizing nuclear bunkers located beneath Moscow.

Russia has erected a system of national missile defense far beyond that allowed by the 1972 ABM Treaty. Deploying approximately 10,000 dual-purpose mobile SAM/ABMs, Russia has used a loophole in the treaty to provide a powerful missile shield. Using a common-sense approach to ABM defense, Russia's interceptor missiles employ special nuclear warheads that can destroy incoming warheads without having to score a direct head-on hit.

Russia is also ahead of the United States in directed energy weapons that could be used to blind or destroy U.S. early warning satellites.

Many of Russia's mafia organizations operate in collaboration with, or under the supervision of, military intelligence and the state security services. Organized crime is used to penetrate Western banks, technology companies, law enforcement and government. Routes used for smuggling drugs and other contraband are reserved in wartime for bringing biological, chemical and nuclear weapons into the U.S.

Additionally, I will add that Russia has amassed a cash and gold bullion reserve of over $84 Billion as of last week.

Nice war chest.

The obvious question is then, does Russia and it's allies have the Will and Desire to engage America in a war? How does one predict this? I guess preprations would be a way.

This is the unthinkable War.

Sean, do you believe they would launch an all out Nuclear War or perhaps just a limited with Major Military installations being hit?

Or is it closer to a 'Red Dawn' Scenario where the Nukes are used to keep USA and Russia from using them, and it'll be slugged out using conventional weapons? I'd guess as soon as any 'confirmed' Russian Nuclear weapon is detontated on our soil that a large release of missles would soon follow on Russia.

Could an Al Qaida nuke be used to force us into they next war?

I have no doubt all you listed is true. Russia is continuing to arm itself. They most definitely don't want to sit there being vulnerable to an attack from anyone. But they are also not in a position to expand their influence -- they are losing their influence even over countries, which used to be part of the old SU.

But they are also not stupid, that's why they are extremely unlikely to attack us.

I think we have multiple enemies, terrorists, fanatical Islamist regimes, left over communist regimes, like N. Korea and China. and so on.

And when faced with those enemies, I think countries, like Russia see that their own interests are better served aligning themselves with us against those other countries, than the other way around.

As I said earlier, I think until fairly recently that was not the case.

An al Qaeda Hit List?

Apparently determined not to be outdone by the United States, the terrorist group al Qaeda (or a sympathizer) has released a video with a deck of cards featuring its own most wanted.

The "cards" (dangling above flames), could be considered an al Qaeda  hit list. They feature a wide variety of individuals including Bush administration figures, lawmakers, the Spanish and Italian prime ministers and conservative American media personalities such as Rush Limbaugh and Bill O' Reilly.

Notably, the card sequence begins with U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Others featured include U.S. President George W. Bush, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, U.S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Sandra Day O'Connor, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and British Petroleum's Peter Sutherland.

While the card images move across the screen, site visitors also see a number of bloody images of both children and adults. One such segment begins with an animated navy jet. Once all the cards have been viewed the video shifts to three still pictures. One image features a battle clad individual with an obscured face aiming a military assault rifle. Another picture shows Osama bin Laden flanked by two aides and surrounded with audio equipment – presumably at a press conference. The final picture shows two individuals (one looking particularly ominous) presumably of Middle Eastern origin dressed in military uniform.

The site(www.angelfire.com/comics/nefaq/sana5oodoV2.swf), which is frequently unavailable due to apparent excessive usage, appears to be hosted by the Massachusetts-based Lycos network. An e- mailed inquiry requesting comment was not immediately answered.

Meanwhile after a brief hiatus, self proclaimed al Qaeda operative Daleel Almojahid is again posting on the internet. In a recent note on his Yahoo group site, Almojahid wrote, "I have posted a file regarding Badr Al Riyadh tape that will give you an idea what was in the tape as we can't post or upload the whole tape here. May God protect all the mojahideen and we promise you that victory is very near."

The file Almojahid uploaded was for a document produced by the Intel Center (www.intelcenter.com) and concerned a report on a video released by al Qaeda on Feb. 4 2004 titled "Badr al- Riyadh: The Assault on the Crusader Settlement and Discovering Important Details." According to Intel Center's Ben Venzke it focused on the attack al Qaeda carried out against the al-Muhaya housing compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Nov.8 2003.

In the report Venzke stated that during the video an al Qaeda spokesman said one of the reasons for targeting the al-Muhaya compound was to go after Arab Christians." According to Venzke,  "This marks an expansion of al Qaeda's targeting strategy and additional strikes against Arab Christian targets or those perceived to be affiliated with Arab Christians can be expected."

In a subsequent e-mail, Almojahid sent a variety of links to video apparently of the same incident. He wrote, "These are new links. I hope they will stay online for some time and allof you will be able to download the tape. (One of those links is www.dhia-studios.com/media/video/badr-riyaad/riyaadh1.rm)

I appreciate your information. And I am interested in it. And I do fear Russia among other countries. I just don't want to see the fighting going on. And I know it is not all your fault. In fact you were probably attacked first. But I hope that we can just keep things as non combative as possible on a personal level. For the good of everyone on this thread and for the good of the purpose of this thread.

I disagree with this statement. Russia withdrew their listening post from Cuba some time ago, as a gesture of goodwill to the US, Cuba is suffering, because the Russian funds dried up. This is just one example.

I asked some questions in 2 previous posts you seemed no need to comment on their relevance. So I will ask you specifically this.

Why are you shooting your mouth off about our knowledge of Russia?

What they might, or might not be doing. If you know...then I am MOST SURE that the FBI CIA NSA, and all other intelligence we have know it too.

I frankly rely on them, and how they are handling whatever it is they do know.

Russia could be just getting ready to fend off a meteorite.

I think Russia is a threat to "itself".
