SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

IMO AlQ OBL are no longer the issue. To me it is more like offshoot cells and/or Hezbolah etc. The angry people who say having 1000 or so members, it is said they would not be as obvious. But make no mistake I do believe, as does my skeptic hubby, they are going to detonate something, he feels more dirty bomb vs. Suitcase Nuke, but in the metro areas where they know the wind factor is dependable.

The tanks in the picture aren't unprotected. You'll get a severe case of lead poisoning if you try to get as close as I was today.

The objective of the picture was to educate folks who might be near a tank of hazardous materials. There are legitimate failures of such tanks that have nothing to do with acts of terror or vandalism.

I think some may have already been found. NEST teams have been working for quite awhile now. The government won't say anything so as not to cause panic. Hopefully they have. I wouldn't mind hearing if they found some, but I'm sure Average Joe would freak out and chaos would spread like wildfire.

What could blanket an area without notice and cause combustion?

A common hazard in my organic chem lab was ethyl ether. It is colorless and the vapors hang around the ground. If poured into water, you can still light the surface of the water. My prof cooked a hot dog over 1 liter of ether poured into 1 liter of water. It burned with a nearly invisible blue flame. He finished the demonstration by placing the cooked hot dog in a bun, opening a beer and dismissing us for lunch.

Ethyl ether is very volatile, so it would have to be used at a time with little wind. You would need to light it pretty soon after dumping it, or it would blow away.

Another call for a complete Immigration Department overhaul. Way too many people in this country on overstayed and fake visas. We could keep a lot of people employed seeking them out and sending them elsewhere. If the alphabets can't locate them, why not bounty hunters? Each time I read an article about in US sleeper cells, the number increases. This is getting scarrier by the minute.

One article I read a while back said the Russian exercises begin on the 21st. Just happens to be the last day of AQ's old year.
