SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

As long as he isn't assasinated. His opponent just made a secret trip to Ukraine to relax a few days, developing.

That's what I'm thinking. Even if they do have the 30 devices, it seems they have the dreamer's eyes. No matter what they say about 9/11 now, they probably thought that would have hurt us alot worse than it did. They may detonate these, taking out alot of people, and I'm sure they think that would bring us to our knees. It might, but it would certainly not be total destruction, as you said, but I'm sure that's what they're expecting. I read something that was posted here earlier that said AQ had nukes, but was saving them for their own protection. Kinda makes sense. That Traveller2002 expects the strike to happen in 4 waves, and also doesn't believe actual nukes are placed. He's not an AQ agent, and those are things he's pieced together. I'm sure he can get to more info than most of us here, but I'm still not placing my trust in him. But from what I pieced together it sounds much more logical for the four wave attack, with large scale attacks (comparable to 9/11, as stated) nationwide with hardly any breaks. Having constant large attacks, probably through chemical plants and the like, across the nation would cause alot of chaos and would seriously hurt. We would have a hard time dealing with everything at once. I'm also along the lines that if they had them, they did have ample opportunity. They keep saying it's soon, but they had some of the best opportunities this month come and go, and they could have fulfilled their prophecy as well. I don't know what to make of this, so I guess I'll just have to wait.

RE: "China, Russia, Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Libya and Syria as nuclear targets, and directs military planners to begin preparing nuclear strike plans in case of a nuclear, biological or chemical weapons attack on the U.S. or "in the event of surprising military developments."

1. China- has been building up to take Taiwan
2.Russia- is beefing up its forces and going through a massive nuclear exercise
3.Iraq- taken off the list
4. NK- Chia head leader periodically hides in his bunker for months at a time. Says he needs his deterrant to deter us.
5.Libya- capitulates
6. Iran (???)

It seems like a giant game of chess, and someone is about to be in check.

Repost:

Because of the large amounts of naturally occurring background radiation in urban areas — emitted by everything from granite and ceramic tiles to cancer therapy machines — locating a bomb's radioactive signature in such settings, "is like looking for a needle in a haystack of needles," according to one NEST searcher.

One thing that this this whole Al Qaeda discussion has brought to my mind is that people are more easily manipulated and herded when they are under fear...through out history, fear has been used over the common people over and over...examples Cold War, French revolts, current terrorism, possible even back with the British trying to keep US colonies under their thumb...this is also a major tool used in communism...is fear being promoted in these discussion threads...just thinking out loud...

PS. But I do think something could happen in the next 5 years.

Thanks..that's some pretty interesting census data.

I was basing my 3M casualty numbers off of various published estimates that take into account kilotons per device.

It's often been estimated that a "suitcase nuke" (in the 1 - 10 KT range) would kill about 100,000 people and irradiate many more. (Possible long-term deaths would likely exceed 100,000 per device but I haven't seen hard numbers on this).

I'd always thought nukes have much more "range" than they seem to. Even the 10KT devices (which are the likely suitcase kind if memory serves me right) don't obliterate as much as you'd think. (This is from several sources like "Nuclear War Survival Skills" which is available online in a bunch of places).

One way or the other, it would make one heckuva mess. But the retaliation would be far, FAR worse - and the sponsor states know it, IMHO.

So, while there are PERHAPS (IMHO, though I still doubt it!) nukes on CONUS soil, I think the threat of MAD against sponsor countries prevent their use - now and for a long time to come. And, with each passing day - NEST (assuming they are out hunting) comes that much closer to finding them..or, the CIA/etc get that much more info from interrogations that help in the hunt.

IF they had nukes (I don't believe they do), why would they limit themselves to something so "ordinary"?

They would because all of the Jihadis want to participate. If they don't they won't be guaranteed heaven.

All of this Musharraf talk reminds me of this:

http://www.kashmiri-pandit.org/elibrary/pressreleases/knn/10012001.html
Gen. Musharraf admitted to the existence of over 7,000 ‘madrassas’ which graduate about 700,000 students every year in Pakistan. He acknowledged that many of the madrassas teach only religion and are breeding grounds for anti-US sentiment. The students of these madrassas are taught the same principles of jehad which were applied so cold-bloodedly by the 19 WTC/Pentagon hijackers.

Rybkin's story leaves a lot to be learned. There is more there than meets the eye. He has no chance of challenging Putin in this election. If anyone gets assasinated my money is on Rybkin as he has been extremely outspoken about Putin, bordering on provocative.

I read that post, and it is right. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but it can be done with radio-spectrum analysis of gamma wave ranges.

Special nuclear materials ( Plutonium, Cobalt, Uranium) have "signatures" in the 1000-1400 KeV ranges that are dead giveaways.

Last weekend I was in G'town in DC and I noticed helicopters flying very low overhead... It was really strange. I lived in DC area for many years and remember the helicopters flying to and from the White House but not very low over G'town...

Remember those posts from Debka about the Pakistani who acted as mules and developed symptoms consistent with radiation poisoning?

Do you mean the Pakistani guy with radiation symptoms who died in the NJ jail shortly after 9/11?

If you want to estimate the effects of nuclear blasts, dirty bombs, etc, try this emergency management software that is free from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

It tracks and projects health effects, blast zones, etc and is a great tool

I have yet to see, in a single article or post, a logical and cogent explanation (with references) of how these nukes have been made operable. It is pretty much agreed that they were 5-6 years old (maybe older) when purchased by OBL. Given that they have a limited shelf life and are very complicated to maintain, the terrorists would have needed to acquire the technical knowhow (which I believe they did) and the weapons grade material to replace what was in the nukes since the original tritium and plutonium would have decayed by now due to it's short halflife. (This is not my opinion but has been confirmed in many places by many authoritative sources. Can anyone provide such an explanation in one place for or against this? There seems to be a sort of quiet panic going (Not knocking anyone, I'm feeling a little anxious myself :) ) on about nukes. Dirty bombs are not what I'm referring to here. I realize WMD includes biological and chemical as well, but the largest concern seems to be regarding the nukes.

What I found to be an interesting coincidence was the fact that the Presideint was staying there. From the article:

"The Illinois Republican and about 200 other GOP leaders, including President Bush, stayed or dined at the Loews between Jan. 29 and Jan. 31 as part of an annual retreat to discuss party policy."
