SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

"I take the threat seriously and hope I am wrong". Same feeling here. Once the Libya information got out, and it seems the nuke material was traced back to Russia -- I imagine we made some threats to Russia about what we would do if hit. Even if we didn't make any threats, they would be worried that we might, given the situation. Look back on that article from Pravda about the nuclear war exercises. There are some lines in the article consistent with some of this. They seem to be saying that it is our choice whether or not we retaliate- hence they are going to protect their own.

There is some type of back channel message being relayed by these exercises. I have no doubt of that.

You just dont fight modern assymetrical warfare against terrorists with ICBM's and SLBMs.

Russia is always behind something in this war on terror. "Rogue scientists" missing materials, Russian mafia, etc. Maybe they have a few secrets to hide also.

I don't want to seem as though I am minimizing the threat we face. I am just trying to come to some conclusion in my own mind as to the probability of nukes with significant yields or dirty bombs, and/or biological and chemical weapons. I have read in several places by purported AQ that the "nukes" or "dirty bombs" are to be used only if we use them first or if AQ decides that their group and cause is taking severe damage and find themselves with their backs to the wall. This was purportedly stated by OBL in one interview he did 2-3 years ago.

Nuns Ordered Off Plane

A group of South Valley nuns say they won't fly American Airlines again after they were ordered off a plane.

The nuns say everyone was ordered off the plane after a pilot asked if passengers smelled sulfur. But, security told the nuns they wouldn't be allowed back on.

The nuns were told the pilot and crew were not comfortable with them on board.
After a complete search of the nuns' bags and a six hour delay, the four eventually took another flight home.

Sister Tessy Pius recalled the ordeal, "I felt discriminated very much, because the four of us were taken out from that group, kept us aside, not telling us why we were there."

American Airlines apologized in a letter to the nuns. It said, "There was a miscommunication between the captain of the flight and the ground security coordinator." It went on to say, "Our actions were not motivated by any discriminatory intent whatsoever."

The airline refunded the price of all four tickets, but the sisters say they won't fly American Airlines again.

There has to be more to this than the story says. Since when are nuns suspicious. I don't think it even deserves more comment. Move along.

I know I sound like a raving paranoid and am also trying to tell myself not to jump to conclusions. What Sean has written sounds very truthful to me. Moving to Orange alert was verified.

On a positive note- if those of us here, just through posting and reading things- have come up with some sense of what we are facing- imagine how much better our highly trained intelligence experts can do/

Is there anyone else out there with information not generally available to the public that can be shared wthout violating any secrecy agreements?

Let's brainstorm here. I don't buy for one second that AQ has any altruistic intentions such as "we won't use nukes unless we are hit first." This is BS.

Many here, including myself believe an attack will be NBC in nature and be simultaneous. If the nuke doesn't get ya', the smallpox will.

QUESTION: For those who believe attack in imminent, such as myself, can any of us come up with a reason why AQ has not struck yet. ["they don't have the nukes" is not a valid answer...this is for those who believe they DO have them] How do these people think. What are they waiting for. Any intelligent ideas?

A basic rule of war is not to use your best weapon in the opening exchanges. Al Qaeda understands this because a lot of them have been to war.

Thats why I dont believe Al Qaeda has used these weapons if they do have them.

We are a long ways from knowing who is going to be president at this time. A lot can happen between now and then. If Kerry get in then I admit that we are in deep trouble.

Exactly. I've never known nuns to smell like sulphur either.

Russia notified the United States on Tuesday that it has launched war games that involve the test launch of intercontinental missiles and flights by its heavy nuclear bombers.
Deputy Chief of Staff General Yury Baluyevsky said the maneuvers were a standard annual event and dismissed several newspaper reports that they would be the largest since the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991.

"Russia has not received any statements from the United States about any violations in the course of the strategic command post exercises that are now being conducted," he told reporters.

Baluyevsky said the exercises involved all six military regions that divide the massive country and involve both sea and ground-based nuclear missile test launches.

He flatly dismissed media reports that heavy Russian nuclear bombers would drop mock missiles over the Atlantic Ocean -- a move likely to draw loud protests from the United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

But the general stressed that the exercises were being conducted "in order to prevent aggression and military pressure being applied to Russia."

Some political analysts speculate that the exercises are being staged to boost President Vladimir Putin's image as a military commander ahead of March 14 presidential elections.

Baluyevsky said Russia's military budget grew by 16 percent this year compared to 2003, without providing any figures.

Let the games begin.
