SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

They could have been positioning these devices even way before 9-11, in the past 10 years, just waiting for the "right" time. The terrorists have also been warning about the destruction of the US, not just "a hit", but total destruction. Considering all the missing nukes, and info which is just in the open literature, it is highly likely to a degree of near certainty that the terrorists have them.

10 - maybe 15 years ago there was said to be an A-bomb scare in Boston. What was said to be done was vehicles going over main routes than neighborhoods scanning for trace radioactive signatures that spill from an unsophisticated device like droppings from a garbage truck.

Mystery fire destroys Pak nuke monument

NEW DELHI: A replica of a monument built to commemorate Pakistan's tit-for-tat nuclear testing in May 1998, had been "mysteriously burnt to ashes" in Karachi, a Pakistani daily repor ted on Tuesday.

The Nation said that the fibre glass replica of the Chagi mountain was one of several constructed by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) to be kept in select cities, to mark Pakistan's testing of nuclear devices on May 28, 1998, 16 days after India tested it's own.

The daily said that many questions were being raised on the burning of the monument at Bagh-e-Quaid (old Polo Ground), at a time when Pakistan's nuclear establishment in mired in controversy.

The police, the Nation report said, had ruled out sabotage, claiming a short circuit had caused the fire, but quoted a gardener at Bagh-i-Quaid as saying there had been was no electricity in the monument for the last two months.

However, with repsect to rumors, I agree with you. They go through the vetting process, corroboration, collation with other peices of info so that hopefully to the greatest degree possible what one ends up with at the end of the day is valid actionable intelligence. This also involves seeing disinformation for what it is. Operational Deception included as well.

When you have multiple, highly reliable and vetted sources from within the government alphabet agencies or DoD all saying the same thing...damn, why would these people be taking such an extreme, extreme risk to get this info out???

Why indeed is the question. One possibility that I am hearing repeatedly and consistently is that there are some major problems and infighting within and between the inteligence and federal law enforcement agencies. And I mean MAJOR problems!!! Perhaps these people feel they have nowhere else to go, the nation is in extreme peril and they find it hard sleeping at night knowing what they know. So they talk.

Sean, one question for you, the answer to which means a great deal in comprehending the validity of the threat you discuss . . . you say "the threat" actually consists of over 30 some-odd devices . . . is your new info coming from someone within the US military who says we have definitive knowledge of the existence of these devices, or is there merely a threat from the bad guys that says they have this many devices? Your answer makes all the difference in the world, because the bad guys are proven liars.

I am told they use highly sophisticated and sensitive radiological sniffers. I believe general searches are from heliborne/aircraft sensors, then the ground crews come in for the detail work when they find a hot spot.
