SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Russia Tests Measures Vs. Missile Defense
By VLADIMIR ISACHENKOV
Associated Press Writer

February 10, 2004, 2:38 PM EST

(Snip) MOSCOW -- Russia is in the midst of a strategic military exercise motivated in part by Moscow's concerns about U.S. plans to develop new types of nuclear weapons, a top general said Tuesday.

The exercise, which began in late January on the headquarters level, will later involve the launch of several ballistic missiles and flights by strategic bombers, said Col.-Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky, the first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian armed forces.

Baluyevsky dismissed media reports that the exercise closely resembles Soviet-era simulations of an all-out nuclear war with the United States, saying that it's not directed against any specific country.

"The enemy is imaginary," Baluyevsky said at a news conference. "There is no hint whatsoever that the enemy is the United States, or any other country."....

I vaguely recall that some of the very early threats mentioned "the east side"

Reagan National Hit With Security Breach

ARLINGTON, Va. Feb. 10 — A security breach forced about 200 passengers out of a terminal and off some airplanes at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Tuesday. "We did have a woman wander away from the screening area as she was waiting to be secondary screened" in Terminal A, said Amy von Walter, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration. "The decision was made to evacuate the terminal and re-screen all the passengers."

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesman Tom Sullivan said three planes parked at Terminal A gates were emptied, and those passengers were among the people evacuated around noon.

"After the evacuation we had K-9 teams and law enforcement search the secure side," said von Walter, adding that planes parked at Terminal A gates were also re-screened.

Von Walter said re-screening began 15 minutes after the terminal was cleared. The woman who caused the concern was never found, though von Walter said she is believed to have been among those who went through security again.

According to Sullivan, it took about 20 minutes to get everyone back in the terminal, and things were back to normal by early afternoon. ----end

strange statement that she wasn't found, then she was?

I just started a short contract with a large financial institution in Boston and was required to take a test on the company's Business Recovery Plan in case something very bad happened at my site. I work in the John Hancock Tower and everybody had to complete the test by Feb. 11!

Worked many contracts in downtown Boston and this the first time I had to participate in something like this.

From early on in the very first thread there was considerable discussion about the east coast. Do you remember the time frame when the London threat came into play. From the first thread:

"this is the last call for muslims in newyork, the east side, and LA to start leaving. the mojahideen are now ready to teach the US a lesson it will never forget inshalaah."

To: mhking
"east side" may also mean "east coast"

This is a new one, there have been several over the last few days, so many it's getting really hard to keep up. I'll try to get an updated list posted later today.

Powder Found at New Jersey Post Office
(article snippet)
MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP)--The Williamstown Post Office was evacuated Tuesday morning after several postal carriers found a powdery substance in their mail, officials said.

Members of the Gloucester County hazardous materials squad entered the building Tuesday afternoon in an effort to identify the substance, according to Cathy Yarosky, spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service.

I'd been here 2 weeks and there was no mention of being required of me to know any disaster recovery plan than an e-mail came in last Friday followed up by one from my supervisor saying it's mandatory and have it done today!

I haven't caught up on the thread (computer problems this morning) but from reading your post I will say "man who leaves trail of slime" doesn't surprise me. He would sell his own mother/daughter/wife/sister/soul for a buck. He is such an utterly useless human being. I'll read the article and get caught up soon, I hope. Still have a little computer fight to finish :-)

In regards to my post about a singluar American city going up in a cloud if we do not stop it, well, no pun intended, that was the conservative side of me speaking, and it was based upon limited and incomplete knowledge. As radio personality Paul Harvey would say, "Now for the rest of the story..."

I have just learned in the past 3 hours, much to my dismay, that the threat actually consists of over 30 some-odd devices. These devices are scattered across the country in major metro areas in multiples of 4 or 5 per location. They are being actively sought by US SOF with great urgency since this past holiday season. Witness the media reports of deployed NEST teams around the country during that time frame. The search continues as we speak. Godspeed to US SOF in their quest.

My quest for knowledge continues as well.

Mush.

He gives a good speech, and he's a political maestro, positively Machhiavellian and completely untrustworthy. But will do what's necessary when it's in his self interest. As it finally really is now.

He's been manipulated into a postion where he can't finesse his islamic credentials with the jihadis and is forced to veer toward the secularists since they're as threatened by the jihadis.

American diplomats should be pleased with themselves despite the belated thunder and fury in the media.
This is a triumph for the administration, not the debacle as the Post et al make it out to be.

The wild card is the beliefs of his senior generals, current and retired.

Here's some additional info FYI _

APRIL 2001 : (PAKISTAN : PRESIDENT MUSHARRAF FORCIBLY RETIRES ATOMIC SCIENTIST ABDUL QADEER KHAN & KHAN'S RIVAL, SAMAR MUBARAKMAND) Khan’s fall from grace under the military dispensation is traced by some experts to relentless American pressure that first resulted in Gen. Musharraf’s decision to forcibly retire him on his 65th birthday in April 2001, against his own wishes. Musharraf also retired Khan's main rival, Samar Mubarakmand, at the same time. According to British writer Simon Henderson, who has extensively chronicled Pakistan’s nuclear shenanigans, American gripe against Khan goes back to the 1980s, when the nuclear scientist began putting his country on the nuclear map. - "Pakistan nuclear leak zeroes in on Dr Khan," by CHIDANAND RAJGHATTA , The Times of India , January 20 2004
