CBS Apologizes for Jackson's Exposure (MTV will not produce another Halftime show)

NEW YORK - CBS apologized for an unexpectedly R-rated end to its Super Bowl halftime show, when singer Justin Timberlake (news) tore off part of Janet Jackson (news)'s top, exposing her breast.

The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, and at the song's finish, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast.

The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the incident on the air.

Timberlake said he did not intend to expose Jackson's breast.

"I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl," Timberlake said in a statement. "It was not intentional and is regrettable."

Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the halftime show all week, "and there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."

The Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom.

"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show," Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said. "They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.

"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."

MTV issued a contrite statement, saying the incident was "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional."

"I'm not a parent either, but anyone with an ounce of decency should recognize this garbage for what it it and be outraged."

I had to couch my perspective of outrage from that of a parent, because of some of the knuckleheads around here just don't seem to get it otherwise.

I'm happy to know there are those (NON-parents) out there who can see this filth as it is, irrespective of any parental concerns.

Yeah. Maybe people will be watching even more closely next year. But it's pathetic to reduce the half-time show of the superbowl to a dirty joke.

I know what you mean. Fortunately the defenders of filth are few on these threads...and most are recognized (by me at least) for their inflammatory posts, no matter what the subject.

When I forget to zip up the fly can I call that a "wardrobe malfunction?" It would help a lot if I could rather than just blush and find a way to zip up withour looking like I'm doing it.

Back in the days of live TV, a well-liked comic forgot to zip up his costume and was dancing around on air for about two minutes waving his instrument to the audience. He never recoved his popularity after that incident. May Timberlake, Ms Jackasson and certainly MTV sink into oblivion and the sooner the better. Take CBS along with you!

Sometimes. But often shirtless, so my nips are out in the wind. Does that make you have shameful, dirty thoughts?

I can't decide what's more repulsive -- that mental picture of you, or your "Vote Trancedo" tagline.

Most football halftime shows take place in the distance, behind a bunch of talking heads, busy analyzing what happened in the first half.(That's what I thought, so I missed the entire halftime show, thank God.) Besides, who in his right mind would watch the likes of Justin Timberlake and that no talent Janet Jackson do anything? I managed to miss most of the scatalogical commercials, too. And the Pats won -- my lucky day.

Thanks for the flames everyone..........

However, my daughter is grown and she LOVED it.

As I remember, half time was at 9.30. What "little kid" was up at that time anyway.

Oh well, to each their own!

After doing some research on Drudge and seeing what I saw, I have come to the conclusion that the whole Jackson clan is twisted, perverted and possibly mentally ill.

Eeechhhh.
As my mother would say, how absolutely foolish..

Now what do we have?

Yes --- it's one thing to say people have a right to buy cable and have 100s of shows with nudity and porn --- they have all that -- but families are no longer allowed to shelter kids from porn --- but there is a law against forcing unsolicited porn onto other people's children.

Also --- what happens to a 12 year old that might actually think these fading pop-stars are cool, goes to school and yanks off the shirt of some girl in his class --- he gets suspended, maybe his parents fined. Nowdays at work even an off-colored joke told in the presence of all adults can get someone sued for sexual-harassment and fired from his job.

I have been in many situations where breast were abound and sex wasn't on the tip of my mind. It is common in almost every country that the breast is not regarded as evil. I pity anyone who would fear going to a nation or it's beaches because of naked breast.

That's silly --- like it or not ---- this country is in part descended from and influenced by the Puritans and early Protestants --- the greatest country in the world, second to none. We got their moral standards, their work-ethic, that Godliness is next to cleanliness and so on. If you like the values of other cultures so much more, then maybe you should just go live in one of those countries.

As I remember, half time was at 9.30.

That depends on the time zone. It wasn't 9:30 here. I think that adults already have access to about all the porn and tasteless shows they could possibly want with cable --- family acceptable entertainment from 6am to 10pm on 3 or 4 channels isn't expecting too much. I intentionally don't bring cable shows into my home, I don't want my kids growing up with MTV --- and I don't need MTV shoved in their faces when I thought I was allowing them to watch a football game. It's one thing to say "then change the channel" if warnings about content are given first --- in this case it was all about deception. Luckily for my kids, they thought the half time show was pretty boring and walked away until the game came back on.

No it won't.

Well, Viacom may think twice from now on after they get a fine of US$27,500 times circa 220 affiliates and owned & operated stations. This is US$6,050,000, probably one of the biggest fines in history for violating FCC rules on obscenity.
