You are right.. .. interesting isn't it that the #'s were so understated by Ridge when Vincente Fox said it's "“over 20 million Mexicans” and according to the CONAPO report it's “23 million Mexicans” and with family reunification it will be more like 3X's that number.

Maybe I'm an incurable optimist, but I think that a determined effort now will stop it. For the first time in a long time, most of the country is sensitized to this. Even CNN is letting Lou Dobbs run his "Outsourcing America" series. That would have gone nowhere in 1992. And as for the B.S. lines about how this will be the "last amnesty", no one will be fooled this time.

Spin? More like practical gov't. Like Prohibition and the 55 MPH speed limit. I would also place laws against recreational drug use in the same category. Some laws just aren't properly enforced or they are ignored.

The INS is limited in resources and by law in what it can do to enforce the immigration laws. It is not a matter of the INS's will to enforce the immigration laws, it's a matter of the voters will to see that the proper resources and laws are enforced. Millions of illegal aliens tells me that we don't have the will to enforce our existing laws. So the question becomes, which laws are we willing to enforce?

In a way it's kind of useless to toss these numbers around. The U.S. media (often in the same article) will use the words "hispanic", "latinos", "immigrants", "migrants" and "undocumented workers" to the point where you have no idea who they're even discussing.

As far as Vicente Fox, he considers any and everybody in America of Mexican descent to be Mexicans, as in his own "people". Most of the Mexican-Americans have no connection to Mexico.

Hey, I just thought of something. Maybe Fox is also including everybody who has/bought/forged a Matricula Consular card to be a Mexican. :)

Personally, I am a little tired of business owners getting cash rich with illegal labor while others do things the legal way and get screwed. More and more businesses will begin to defraud the govt as they get fed up with everyone around them doing it. I've reached the tipping point myself.

BTW, will Mssrs. Bush/Rove/Ridge ask that the beneficiaries of this amnesty plead guilty to their federal crimes (illegally entering, document fraud, working without green card, and God knows what else) and accept a Federal criminal record that they would have to wear for the rest of their lives in the U.S.?

Why is it that foreign non-citizens are about to be given a gift that this administration refuses to give to Americans? Will the millions of citizens convicted of federal drug possession have their records expunged and all of their civil rights restored? What about all the police officers who lost their jobs because they could no longer carry a gun after being convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence(!)?

This amnesty will be unprecedented in American history: millions upon millions of foreigners granted rights and privileges far in excess of anything ever extended to Americans. How low on the Totem pole are we?
