If we want to send a strong message to Bush for the general election we should follow suit writing in Tancredo for that will show up in ALL 50 states, wouldn't you agree?

I don't have a problem with writing Tancredo's name in.

Just look what happened in California. Arnold was the man to beat but the dems threw everything at him that they could. I believe Arnold started moving to the left to take some of the heat off him and maybe get some more votes. Then there was McClintock. The REAL CONSERVATIVE. By staying in the race, he kept Arnold from drifting too far the the left. What would be great in this primary is that someone would run the the right of GWB to keep him from drifting to far to the left. Is Tancredo the guy? I hope not. I think that if he'd run against GWB, the Repuplican elites would attempt to destroy him. We need him as a legislator. I hate to think where we'd be without him there.

Writing his name in without him running is a good idea. I still think we need to work on our congressmen and women. We need to let them know that they are more vulnerable than Bush at the voting booth.

With regard to immigration, they have both made comments that concern me.

We have rules, laws that govern orderly immigration into this nation. If we abandon them, anyone can come here that can cough up the duckets to purchase transportation to our borders. Should this become a Moslem nation? Should it become Mexico II? Should it become India? Should Shining Path memebers or members of Al Quaeda or the Taliban be able to immigrate here at will?

We've got some serious soul searching to do. We talk a big story on protecting our nation's citizens, then allow the worst criminals to waltz across our borders at will.

Look at what our citizens have to go through at airports today. Why? Because our leaders decided that controling our borders was unnecessary. Look at the billions in government programs that get eaten up by newcomers. Look at the stresses on our infrastructure in regions flooded with non-citizens.

Arnold and George are going to have some splaining to do, if they don't get with the program and protect our borders.

This is bigtime BULL. In Switzerland, where there is very low economic immigration, the older and younger Swiss do ALL THE JOBS, just about. Elderly men are sweeping the streets and proud of it. Elderly women are proud and happy to be waitresses and be out and among people every day. The young all are apprentices while still learning their trades, working for peanuts and experience.

And I just heard last night on talk radio an older black male caller complaining that the jobs he and his same aged friends wish they could still do are all taken by illegals.

Pray tell what good it is to be a US Citizen if we have open borders and anyone can come and go as they please?

Our birthright has been devalued to the point that it is essentially meaningless.

Our borders are wide open, but if you want to take a plane flight, you have to submit to a strip search upon demand. Hell, citizens are the suspects boys. Those newcomers simply add texture to the nation.

Opponents of Ridge's suggestion say that allowing a free flow of immigrants will undo any successes by law enforcement to stop terrorists from entering the country.

"The way to protect our nation from international terrorists is to drain the swamp of mass illegal immigration that provides cover for the terrorists, not to perfume the swamp and pretend that it no longer poses a threat," Federation of American Immigration Reform (search) Executive Director Dan Stein said in a statement.

"Basically, the borders are wide open. Basically, we don’t have any defenses for our borders at a time when we are trying to prosecute a war on terror," Keeley said, explaining that Ridge's intimation of an amnesty would do little to stem the flow of illegal immigrants.

Bush has ruled out granting a blanket amnesty, but in a Dec. 15 news conference, said that more can be done to match immigrant workers with needy employers.

Immigration reform is headed back onto the Bush administration agenda as the White House gears up for its 2004 re-election bid. A political amnesty would be a touchy subject for the president as he tries to juggle the immigration issue, popular with the nation's growing Hispanic population, but alienating to conservatives in the Republican base.

Representatives on the other side of the immigration issue are also developing a legislative front. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., chairman of the House immigration caucus, submitted a bill in November that boosts money for border control and increases penalties for violations.

"The White House diligently avoided using the 'A' word in its announcement," Stein said. "But no matter how much Karl Rove wishes to torture the English language, a program that rewards millions upon millions of people who have cheated to get into this country, who have cheated by working off-the-books and avoided paying taxes, and who have cheated by using billions of dollars in public services ... is still an amnesty."

Phil Kent, executive director of the American Immigration Control Foundation, said the former Pennsylvania governor should resign his position.

"Ridge is clearly incapable of overseeing homeland security," Kent said. "Aside from dynamiting the rule of law by rewarding lawbreakers, how would security interests be served by simply granting legal status to foreigners whose identities and criminal histories can't be verified?

Ridge and the White House I heard on the radio (I don't know how true it is) that Ridge has said something to the fact that this semi-amnesty is going thru no matter what the citizens think. I'm wondering if anyone could confirm this. If true, its quite a slap in the face to the citizens.

Doesn't Bush KNOW THIS??? Come on, he must know that his base is severely angry with him over illegal immigration. He is going to be hurt by his stance!

I cannot figure out why he is pandering to Mexico or to illegals. It doesn't have to be an anti-Hispanic thing at all. If he can look at 9/11 and manage to say every time that Islam is a religion of peace, then why can't he comment negatively on our illegal immigration problem and still say that we welcome legal Hispanics?!

Why are you inviting them to lie to you?

They aren't going to offer a "blanket" Amnesty. "Blanket" Amnesties are myths. They've never occurred; they've never been on the table; and a promise against them is meaningless.

"Blanket" Amnesty is the Bush Administration's bait-and-switch, to get you to fight the wrong battle. If the opponents of Amnesty fall for it, they will lose.

That battle is against Amnesty, in any and all forms.

President Bush knows this, that's why he makes the proimise he can keep... against "blanket" Amnesty.
