Republican presidential nominees 2008

Posted on 12/19/2003 2:58:48 AM PST by Reader of news

I think President Bush will be re-elected next year surely. Nevertheless, there is not any sure candidate for Republican presidential nomination in 2008. I think John McCain, Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, Condoleezza Rice, George Pataki and Bill Frist may be candidates.

HorseHockey! He's foaming at the mouth to institude a State Income Tax so he can keep feeding the monstrous social programs for the state (such as the runaway cost of TennCare (*state medical program for non-insured peoples*)). The only way he hasn't pulled the issue up yet is that he said he wouldn't bring the issue up in his first term. So, he gets the E Tenn RINO's to do it. (They are a reason why he is the govenor at the time.)

Of course, the Democrats would still insist she is stupid.

My only real concern with Condi is that she is somewhat shy. I would like to see her take the VP slot in 2004. She and Bush are close and see eye to eye on most matters. The Democrats have no two candidates that could Bush / Rice in 2004, period.

Condi would make a great VP. And I'm not ashamed to admit that her particular demographic -- her race -- IS a factor. She just might pick up a substantial portion of the African-American vote, which would screw the Dems. As VP, she would do less damage with her pro-choice, pro-AA positions. But the lady is a hawk. No doubt about that, and she has backbone. I don't see her as shy at all. She can hold her own in a debate. She can be tough as nails.

Bill Frist would be the current frontrunner

Problem is, Senators tend not to do well in the Presidential race. Owens is a Governor, and a stronger candidate all around. Frist has no backbone. How is the guy going to lead a friggin' country?

She's pro-AA, pro-abortion, and other than that no one knows her positions on anything else.

You're absolutely right.

She's another Colin Powell.

Maybe on domestic issues, but not on foreign policy! She is a HAWK, without a doubt. Ultra-conservative on foreign policy.

It's perfect strategery. As I recall, she is pro 'states determining choice'. That alone will cause howls of pain from the pro choice left.

As far as affirmative action, I wouldn't hold that against her. It's simply too soon for any politicians aspiring for the presidency to come out against it. Give it another five to ten years before that one moves.

But, as you said, she's a hawk, and a brilliant one at that. I'd be perfectly happy with her at the helm.

If Condi is a good VP, and then becomes president, it would drive a stake into the heart of the 'we only nominate white guys' DNC. She would make a good CINC, he is very electable, and she would cause irreperable damage to our enemies.

No one else brings all this to the table.

My thoughts on Frist don't have to do with his ability to lead, simply with his ability to win.

But that's what I'm saying: Senators tend not to win. Of course, there are exceptions, and Frist might be one of those.

Yes, that's what I recall too. A rather conservative position, isn't it? Damn, nice to hear someone agree with me about Condi for a change!

And you're right: A Condi nomination would push the Rats over the edge. It would really give a huge push to the Black Conservative movement -- one of the biggest fears of the left. When the largely religious black community starts to wake up, watch out Dems. A huge portion of their constituency will be drained away overnight. Condi can help that to happen sooner than later.

I don't care who it is as long as he/she sticks to being a Republican during their term.

Maybe on domestic issues, but not on foreign policy!

I want a member of the VRWC as a candidate, and Condi Rice isn't it!

Look at the disaster called Richard Nixon. Historians give him high marks on foreign policy, but he was an abysmal failure on domestic issues. The federales grew mightily on his watch.

Let's keep looking and guessing. Our candidate is amongst us, but no one has named him yet.

I know many people who are black and relatively conservative, but who are wary of voting Republican. I know more who don't care about either party but are inclined to think Democrats care more about them then Republicans. The widespread perception is that Republicans are closet racists. Obviously, this is not true, but it an illusion that we have yet to dispel.

It's not so much an ideological problem as an image one. Electing Condi would change that image entirely. Leaders like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have nothing to offer but fear and prolonged victimization. A role model like Condi Rice could offer the vision of success through education and hard work.

If she's were only a B- Conservative, the 'force multiplier' of her gender and ethnicity would alter the flow of political though in America. She'd be an A+ Republican, which would hasten the destruction of the liberal victimization machine. Looking at the big picture, it's far better to get her in, than someone more conservative.
