In a demoralizing message to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq, visiting New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told them that Americans back home are growing increasingly skeptical of President Bush's decision to send them into battle.
Describing two meetings with G.I.s over turkey dinners in Baghdad, Sen. Clinton told reporters later that soldiers wanted to know "how the people at home feel about what we are doing."
Clinton said she told the troops, "Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."
She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually loose the war in Iraq, contending, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."
Despite her sour pronouncements, the former first lady insisted that the soldiers were just as glad to see her as they were President Bush, whose surprise visit less than 24-hours earlier was greeted with standing ovations.
"It's a positive for the commander-in-chief to visit troops in the field," Clinton told reporters, adding, "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself."
Speaking from a secure location just over the Kuwaiti border, Mrs. Clinton launched one verbal salvo after another at the White House, arguing that Bush officials had been "obsessed" with getting Saddam Hussein and saying the perception blinded them to the difficulties of deposing his regime.
"The Pentagon tried to make do with as few troops as possible, as light a footprint as they could get away with," Clinton said. "Now, we're playing catchup . . . Unfortunately, I don't think they fully appreciated the conditions we would encounter."
The top Democrat also reprised her charge that the White House is being less than candid when it comes to apprising the American people of the costs of the war.
"The obstacles and problems here are much greater than the administration usually admits to," she said, adding, "Everybody has to be honest."

Well, I have news for this goofball, not only does he not speak for the vast majority of us Americans, but anybody that say he does is a bald-faced pathological liar and he is one of those.
It is HIS side and others like him that have been doing all the imposing. People are starting to wise up to this B.S. and C.F. and they know what's going on.
We had eight years of the most corrupt and sleaizest of administrations under Bill and Hillary and our nation has become a laughingstock because of it. Well, those days are over now. Those days of the Bill and Hillary types like this loser from Harlingen imposing thier will on the rest of us are over now.
The adults are back in charge and We intend to stay that way. Anyone that's got a problem with that can go pack up their bags and fly somewhere else. We don't need people of this kind co-existing aomgest us.
You don't get along with and hold hands with those who have malicious intentions towards you and that's what these people have.
Regards.
Lord God, all the earth praises Your name. And on our Lord's Day sabbath we pause, according to Your example, and spend time specifically to worship You and to participate in Your rest.
Yet there are those who steal peace from the earth with their murders and their thefts. We pray that You bring them all to Justice. Especially, Lord, we pray for the soon capture of the murderer Saddam Hussein and for the execution of Justice upon him.
We pray that churches throughout America would reject him and those who, like Hillary Clinton, Jacques Chirac, and Howard Dean, support Saddam Hussein with their anti-American propaganda. We pray that you silence these evil ones who would destroy the morale of our troops, our troop families, and our nation.
Stand up for Your people, O Lord.
We pray in the name of Jesus; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I would hope to see something more than NewsMax-- perhaps we could pressure them for a complete transcript if it is not already elsewhere.
A SOLDIER RESPONDS: A slightly different take than Cheryl Merrill and Dana Milbank:
Mr. Sullivan, I was present for the surprise visit by the President. It was truly wonderful to be there, and my buddies and I really are grateful that President Bush would take a real risk to come see u. He flew about 12 hours to spend 2 hours with us, he served food to the troops, but he never got a chance to eat himself, at least not until he got on the plane, I'd imagine. For 2 hours, the President walked amongst us, not a receiving line where we came to him, stiff and formal, but coming to us, reading our names on our uniforms and greeting us by name. He looked me in the eye when he shook my hand, he joked with some, whispered to others, spoke a little Spanish to my friend. 2 hours of almost non-stop motion, how exhausting after a 12 hour flight! He did it to be with us, and we appreciate it.
Amen ! Amen ! Amen !
"It's a positive for the commander-in-chief to visit troops in the field," Clinton told reporters, adding, "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself."
I read that statement somewhere yesterday and IIRC she said "... the troops seemed to appreciate seeing myself and Sen. Reed." Still a poor choice of words that highlights the typical Clinton me, myself, and I attitude.
Yep, they're circling the wagons and trying to ignore it.
I say we all contact any friends in the media on this. This filth must be accentuated and illuminated, not covered up like all her other lies and distortions.
Thank you. I really have enjoyed your work for years. I believe you are a genius. Your words and your art are brilliant and unique.
C. of the ankles, thighs, and a**, oh, and her bugeyes!
You said it! Thanks. If you happen to have any fear of the possibility of her getting into the election race next year, check out post # 649.
If all Americans knew that info therein, she'd never get elected!!! Check it out.
LOL! LOL!
Excellent. Press on.
