What's "Non Partisan Elections" mean? You don't put the "R" or "D" after a name on the ballot.

Hinds County has the city of Jackson, which I believe has a black majority.

Basically, it allows anybody to vote in the primary, which makes the primary into a general, and the general into a runoff. So, given the makeup of NYC, you would end up with two dems in a runoff general everytime, giving them an effective monopoly over the governor's office.
Happily, the voters in NYC were too stupid to get it, so they seem to be voting it down :)

Thanks to all!
I'm hanging on this thread to watch results. Please keep it coming.
And don't forget, Jindal is next up here in Louisiana. We will take the Mississippi precedent that will be set tonight, and elect our Conservative Governor as well!
GO B. JINDAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't look like the Constitution Party will get enough to get an automatic ballot spot. Less than 1%Too bad. John Cripps is a fine candidate.

Why exactly is the defeat of the non-partisan elections ballot initiative good for us? How long can we reasonaby expect to win partisan elections in a city that is 5-1 RAT? How many city council seats does the GOP have in NYC? I'll tell you: 3 out of 46. If elections were non-partisan, at least we could perhaps sneak some conservatives in there without them having to own up to being Republicans.

I take it that results from Hinds county aren't in?
