Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Yeah, I underestand the differing mindset (believe you me!!) but I don't see them taking the risk to hide the nuke because of the risk of discovery.

when I see stuff like this, I do not discount it out of hand, but rather, let's ask some questions (assume we are talking about a full blown nuke here):

so they have a suburban ready to go at a moments notice. at what moment? after the weapon goes off? it will be too late by then, for this to be effective, they would have to be tipped in advance. so a wall street journal reporter knows this? what about political leaders, do they know this? certainly if someone like a WSJ reporter knows this, there must be a large number of people higher in the food chain then some reporter who do also. do they want to die? any evidence of their families moving? wouldn't there be a large circle of the elites who knew this too? and wouldn't that circle be growing everyday, as more and more of them told their friends and neighbors? or are all the people "in the know" content to keep it to themselves and just let everyone except their immediate family die?

what are their demands? why wouldn't they have made such demands right after 9/11, before so many of them got killed and captured, when the US was at its weakest point?

too many things don't connect. are their threats? sure. could they pull off something much lower tech, like a dirty bomb or taking down planes? clearly yes. should we continue to watch and listen, absolutely.

Deleel would set up a forum on yahoo and after some amount of time they would get shut down. This happened at least 4 or 5 times that I know of. The last one was shut down (don't quote me) between Christmas and New Years. He has yet to start another one that we know of at least on yahoo.

Some places couldn't even be evacuated -- "shelter in place" is a euphomism to "tough luck".

See this article:

Report: New York Must Keep Focus On Anti-Terror

Albany - A digital attack that cripples computers. A biological pathogen that overwhelms the state's hospitals. Contaminated food that sets off a mad cow-like scare. All are potential terrorist threats highlighted in a State Senate report to be released today that says New York State must do more to improve homeland security, be it in the city, Long Island or its Canadian border.

The report, by a Republican-led committee chaired by Sen. Michael Balboni (R-East Williston), identifies computer networks, agriculture, hospitals and international borders as particularly exposed targets, making about 30 recommendations for possible legislation.

While most of the report deals with statewide concerns, it includes a section on Long Island's preparedness, noting that due to its unique geography and population density, evacuation is impossible, and families need to be self-sufficient while "sheltering in place."

Think tugboats just coasting near the wharfs with some police or fire fighter uniformed men aboard...think they might pass by? Or a routine bluefish boat going into Sheepshead?

FWIW, I worked with the daughter of a senator not too long ago (after 9-11) and she knew nothing. I had to keep her up to date on what was going on. Although I imagine that if something dire was in the works he would warn her.

What if as soon as they are discovered they detonate...it might not matter how close to target if they have procured a Soviet or Chinese lalapaloosa that can really wipe out a city...they could still be outside the city limits or just approaching the harbor.

"isn't recommending a 3rd party candidate one of the contributors to how we ended up being stuck with clintoon in the first place? Isn't this also one of the factors in how the race between GWB and algore was very close? The reality is that 3rd party candidates -- even excellent choices such as Tancredo -- are spoilers.

My vote remains with GWB despite my disappointment with the illegal immigration policy ideas. I am hoping that GWB has a few tricks up his sleeves, as he so often does.

Much will probably change before such a policy switch happens, IMHO. This is a huge, important issue, but it is one issue and nearly all other issues that I care about find GWB on the good, right and moral side. We will never find a person who will mirror all of our ideals. Even though -- for the most part -- we are all non-liberals and non-demoncrats here on FR, there are variances even among our stances. If we don't continue to work together, we will loose the progress we have made since election 2000.

===

Excellent assessment. We need to be careful so we don't end up "throwing the baby out with the bathwater". We need to have faith in Bush, and stand by him.

I think by giving a chance to the illegals who have/find themselves steady jobs, he is opening the door to deny services to the illegals who are a drain on our economy and welfare system. I think people, even many here are again "misunderestimating" Bush.
