And the morons that decided to shave their heads for team unity. Now they are not just losers, they are ugly losers.

Casey had the Kansas City A's pipeline of players to fill positions in his platoon scheme.

Torre has a solid core of position players, the best closer in baseball, clutch hitters and experienced starting pitching.

The latter is fading. Clemens is gone, Wells may have one-two years left. Weaver is an honorary Cub, Mussina, despite tonight, is a choke artist, and Petite is getting old.

Also Zim is not getting younger. Torre depends on him a lot.

Too bad they play the games, when that happens the "better" teams always seem to lose.

True in "real" life as well. Nothing the Allies put on the battlefield should have even been able to scratch the paint on the Tiger tanks the Germans had. Japan's Mitsubishi Zeros were lighter, faster, and more maneuverable than anything the US had in the air at that time as well.

LOL, ESPN just noted that the total time taken to play all the games between the Yankees and Red Sox this year was 83 hours. The trade of Babe Ruth was 83 years ago.

Holy shit. I've had 83 ounces of beer in the last 83 hours. It'll be at least 83 days before I wath another baseball game. Talk about coincidences. It'll probably be another 83 posts before I show my hand on this thread -- oh, the cosmic sensation is overwhelming ............

Don't know why you consider A-Rod overrated. His stats are mind-boggling, but he unfortunately chose to be the Ernie Banks of his generation. At least Ernie didn't really have a choice in the old days.

Yep, it seems payroll envy is an epidemic around here. Lotta folks just can't seem to come to grips with the fact this organization is all about class, tradition, and winning.

And as for the common (and ignorant) accusation that the Yanks "buy" all their players, most of their best players are guys they brought up through their own farm system --- Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, Alfonso Soriano .......

Ya know, if the Marlins were smart, they would have left a few hours ago for NY. Then if Boston had won, they could have taken off for a short hop to Boston and gotten in a couple of hours earlier.

They should have just taken off from Florida and circled around the NYC air traffic control area until the game ended, and then either landed at LaGuardia or gone on to Logan. ;)

If every team were owned by guys like Steinbrenner then we'd see a lot better brand of baseball. Baseball ownership is for billionaires with huge egos who hate to lose. When corporations take over a team, the end result is mediocrity.

What have the Dodgers done since O'Malley sold them?

Pettitte, Mussina, Wells and Contreras are a good starting four. White, Nelson and Rivera are a good bullpen too!

In history there is always one moment you can look back on and say, " this is when everything changed ". I think that moment was when the eyes of Mr. Boone lit up when he seen that slow hanging knuckle ball leaving Wakefields hand. Or......... it could be another moment. But I think this one is pretty good. Go Yankees !!!!!!

With his salary he needs more than just stats, he needs to lead the team to sniffing distance of the promised land and be a strong performer in the clutch. At half his salary he'd be a great player, with that salary he is grossly overrated. Compare him to Pudge's 500 batting average with runners in scoring position, that's clutch, A-Rod's not clutch, and as Juhn Buchegraz says: clutch is everything in life.

"- Kirk Gibson, Game 1 of World Series, 1990 (I think)"

Actually, 1988. Dennis Eckersley gave up the dinger to Gibson (who who was literally playing on one leg.)

"- Joe Carter of the Blue Jays vs. Phillies in Game 6 in 1993 or 1994."

Actually, 1993. There was no Series in 1994 due to the strike.
