Casey had the Kansas City A's pipeline of players to fill positions in his platoon scheme.
Torre has a solid core of position players, the best closer in baseball, clutch hitters and experienced starting pitching.
The latter is fading. Clemens is gone, Wells may have one-two years left. Weaver is an honorary Cub, Mussina, despite tonight, is a choke artist, and Petite is getting old.
Also Zim is not getting younger. Torre depends on him a lot.

Also Zim is not getting younger. LOL. Subtle. I love it.

Pettitte, Mussina, Wells and Contreras are a good starting four. White, Nelson and Rivera are a good bullpen too!

I wasn't saying that Torre and Stengel were similar managers, just that they both either had a sixth sense or a horseshoe up their arses. Who knows what happens if Giambi doesn't bat seventh, or Boone starts?
