Actually, the Red Sox lineup is better than the Yankees. The starting pitching is a push but Mariano Rivera is in a class of his own. But the Yankees have that intangible going for them.

It was all down to Pedro pitching to Matsui. Then Matsui wisely seeing that Posada's pop would drop and racing home with the tying run.

I said this before. Matsui is a player I point to my daughter as how baseball should be played.

Great series, both teams left it on the field. Had Wakefield gotten out of that inning, they would have had the game won. Rivera was done.

Best pennant series ever. Brilliantly played and no curses. Two teams fighting until the end.

As for blaming the managers: Torre made a number of questionable moves, too.

I only had that ominous feeling when Little left Pedro in too long. You knew it, I knew it, the world knew it, except Little and Martinez.

You and I know there are no such thing as curses. But their is psychology. Both Dusty Baker and Grady Little had a bit of arrogance about all of this. When things start going badly. Pull the damn pitcher don't give your team the opportunity to start questioning if there are higher cosmic realities mitigating against your success. Nagging doubts can lose ballgames.

I don't blame Wake, he's a nuckleballer they live and die by luck. I whole heartedly blame Grady, Pedro's tank was extremely empty and it was painfully obvious, he got no outs and few clean strikes in those 14 extra pitches he should never have gotten, it wasn't "a hittable pitch" that killed them it was 3 doubles and a single worth of hittable pitches. Much like the Cubs- Marlins series leaving a starting pitcher in way too long lost the series.

Boone's homer was a great thing, but it broke a tie. Thompson's turned a 4-2 loss into a 5-4 win. I can think of a few homers were more dramatic than Boone's:
- Mazeroski in Game 7, Pirates-Yanks, 1960.
- Kirk Gibson, Game 1 of World Series, 1990 (I think)
- Joe Carter of the Blue Jays vs. Phillies in Game 6 in 1993 or 1994.

Boone's homer is on an EXACT par with Chris Chambliss of the Yanks vs. KC in the early 70s and Bert Campaneris of the As vs. the Orioles (I think) in the same time frame. I'm incredibly happy for him-he's not a NY pressure-cooker kind of guy. This will keep the fans off his back for quite some time.
