Boone's homer was a great thing, but it broke a tie. Thompson's turned a 4-2 loss into a 5-4 win. I can think of a few homers were more dramatic than Boone's:
- Mazeroski in Game 7, Pirates-Yanks, 1960.
- Kirk Gibson, Game 1 of World Series, 1990 (I think)
- Joe Carter of the Blue Jays vs. Phillies in Game 6 in 1993 or 1994.

Boone's homer is on an EXACT par with Chris Chambliss of the Yanks vs. KC in the early 70s and Bert Campaneris of the As vs. the Orioles (I think) in the same time frame. I'm incredibly happy for him-he's not a NY pressure-cooker kind of guy. This will keep the fans off his back for quite some time.

I was thinking of the Chambliss homer too. That broke an awful string for the Yankees, 12 years away from the World Series, I remember hearing about it from a guy with a transistor radio (I was travelling on a school bus that night and missing the game was killing us) like it was yesterday.

This was just like it. That series was tight as anything, too, Brett was killing us.

Actually, 1988. Dennis Eckersley gave up the dinger to Gibson (who who was literally playing on one leg.)

Actually, 1993. There was no Series in 1994 due to the strike.
