Sen. John McCain
(R-Ariz.) said he regrets choosing former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) to be his running mate during the 2008 presidential campaign.
The New York Times reported on Saturday that McCain, while still defending Palin’s performance, said in his upcoming book “The Restless Wave” that he wishes he had instead selected former Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.)
His advisers reportedly had warned against choosing Lieberman, who was once a Democrat, stating that Lieberman’s support of abortion rights could divide Republicans.
“It was sound advice that I could reason for myself,” he writes. “But my gut told me to ignore it and I wish I had.”
In a new HBO documentary, McCain goes on to say that not choosing Lieberman was “another mistake" that he made in his political career.
Lieberman told The Times that he didn’t know McCain felt that way.
“It touched me greatly,” he said of the film.
The Times reported that Lieberman recently visited McCain, 81, at his ranch in Arizona where the senator is recovering from his brain cancer treatment and surgery for an infection.
Recently released excerpts from McCain’s upcoming memoir indicate that he doesn’t know how much time he has left to live while battling the glioblastoma he was diagnosed with last year.
Although the memoir isn’t entirely political, McCain still takes swings at Trump.
McCain writes that the president seems to care more about “the appearance of toughness” than American values, chiding Trump's coziness with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in particular.
“The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and other Appreciations.” will be released May 22.

When a proposed Kerry/McCain bipartisan ticket outpolled (by a huge margin) the incumbent BushCheney ticket in May of 2004, it sent shivers down the Deep State Uniparty’s collective spine.
And it wasn’t just because neither Cheney or Bush were actual veterans during wartime in Iraq.. while of course Kerry and McCain were...
It was the threat of a bipartisan ticket, which would explode the fake “left vs right” stranglehold the Elite Uniparty has had on this country for decades.
That’s why Karl Rove came out of retirement in July/August 2008 to fight the proposed McCain Kerry ticket at that time.
The lame duck Bush White House and Uniparty Elites were scared to death the jig would be up if McCain and Joe won.
The “jig” of course, is that the Left and the Right Unipartiers raise money and run on hatred of the other party, without the hoi polloi realizing they are all in the same party.
Get it? They are all in the same party. They pretend to be Tea Party (Ted Cruz/Rand Paul) but NOTHING gets done because they are backed by the Elite Uniparty.
They only get exposed when this “left vs right” jig is up. And they were afraid it would be up if they got conservative Dems and Republicans voting for Lieberman and McCain.
The same people who voted for Trump!
Trump exposes the Uniparty in the same way.
And Palin, by being picked out of the blue, found herself up against a viscious lame duck Bush administration, the so called Left, the RoveRINOS and Bushies on her own McCain campaign who sabotaged her!
Gore picking Lieberman was the normative thing to do. McCain picking Lieberman was a supposed problem for the Uniparty.
If you don’t understand why McCain Lieberman was a problem for the same Elites who are attacking Trump, you don’t understand the game-board.
And if you don’t understand the game board, you don’t understand why Palin and Trump expose the Uniparty, so you don’t understand what’s going on today in the White House.

Not sure if it would have mattered who the VP candidate on the ticket was that year. . Bush sunk the republican ticket along with the slick talking Obama.

Ooops, meant to say that Rove came out of retirement in summer of 2008 to expose and thwart the proposed McCain LIEBERMAN ticket, not the earlier McCain Kerry ticket that Kerry was proposing in Spring of 2004.
Rush Limbaugh was somehow involved with this ruckus about Lieberman and McCain. So was the reporter that Rove always leaked to, Bob Novak, who was literally on his deathbed.
Before Palin, the BushRoveUnipartiers were deathly afraid of being exposed by a bipartisan ticket. That was their biggest fear.
Then came Palin, and they had to nuke her.
