Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) said this afternoon that he now sees Robert Mueller's Russia investigation as a probe into possible "treason."
Kaine and others on Capitol Hill reacted this afternoon to the latest revelations about a meeting last June between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer.
Earlier today, Trump Jr. released what he said was the “entire email chain” of conversations setting up the meeting with attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya.
In the email chain, Trump Jr. expresses interest in obtaining damaging information on Hillary Clinton.
Kaine, who was Clinton's running mate last year, said the new reports take the probe to another level....

1. He's not even a member of the Trump administration. He can sit before a grand jury and plead the Fifth Amendment until the cows come home, and if he is compelled to testify through an immunity offer then he can simply point out that his father had no role in any of the proceedings or the e-mail correspondence and no knowledge of any of it.
2. His father hadn't even been nominated yet when this whole episode took place.

What is the underlying crime that would be the focus of a RICO prosecution? The Feds can’t just charge someone with “racketeering” without establishing that there was a conspiracy related to an underlying crime or criminal enterprise.
