Cruz supporters and Cruz are trying to claim that Ted Cruz was not naturalized at birth, instead claiming he was natural born because he acquired citizenship at birth. What they fail and often refuse to understand is such legal terminology is utilized to distinguish between usages that indicate naturalized citizens acquire citizenship at birth, whereas natural born citizens acquire citizenship by birth. This distinction appears in a variety of current and historical authorities ranging from the current U.S. Department of State Foreign Affairs Manual and backwards in history to Sir Edward Coke in Calvin’s Case 1608 talking about the distinction between a subject-made (datus), naturalization, versus a subject-born, natural born (natus). The point is that what Cruz said is false. No birther, no matter how extreme, believes that only NBCs can produce a pNBC. And the simple reason they don’t believe it is that it’s an impossitble condition. The US is not an infinitely old country. Therefore, under Cruz’ strawman argument, there would be NOBODY qualified for the office of president. Nobody.
The point is not a hard one at all. It is that Cruz created a contrived and fictional class of birthers for the sole, boorish reason of dragging Trump’s mother into it. There can be no other explanation for what he did. That is the point.
On this we wholeheartedly agree.
Trump had one and only one highlight. Where he wrapped himself up in 9/11 and said NY values were great (not mentioning the 1000s of dancing Muslims this time).
