HUDSON, N.H. — Ted Cruz on Tuesday went further than ever in needling Donald Trump, suggesting Democrats are behind the billionaire's questions about his citizenship.
Speaking with reporters after a rally here, the U.S. senator from Texas was asked what he thought of Trump citing Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe's analysis that Cruz might be ineligible to be president. Trump has pounced on Cruz's Canadian birth to cast doubt on whether he is a natural-born citizen.
“I will say it is more than a little strange to see Donald relying on as authoritative a liberal, left-wing, judicial activist Harvard law professor who is a huge Hillary supporter," Cruz replied. "It starts to make you think, ‘Gosh, why are some of Hillary’s strongest supporters backing Donald Trump?’"
Cruz then suggested Democrats were supporting Trump as a way of propping up a Republican they believe they can beat in the general election.
"You know, the last couple of elections, you’ll recall the Democrats got the nominee they wanted to run against in the general election," Cruz said. "It seems the Hillary folks are very eager to support Donald Trump and the attacks that are being tossed my direction.'"
The remarks represent Cruz's sharpest turn yet on Trump, whom he has refused to criticize for months, even as the billionaire has sharpened his attacks against Cruz. The two are now locked in a tight race in Iowa, the first-in-the-country caucus state.
Trump has been raising questions about whether Cruz is a natural-born citizen, which the Constitution requires for someone to serve as president. Cruz has insisted the legal question is straightforward: He argues his mother's U.S. citizenship (she's from Delaware) makes him a natural-born citizen, even if he was born in Calgary and his father is from Cuba.
Tribe, whom taught constitutional law to Cruz at Harvard, has said the issue is not as cut and dry, recently telling The Guardian that questions about Cruz's eligibility to be president are "murky and unsettled." Trump has favorably cited Tribe's analysis more than once, calling the professor a "constitutional expert, one of the best in the country," during a rally Monday in New Hampshire.
Tribe, viewed as one of the top liberal law professors in the country, has a long history of donating to Democratic candidates and causes. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Cruz is back in the Granite State for the first time in two months. He plans to hold another event later Tuesday afternoon, a town hall in Londonderry.
The only time Tribe turns into a real lawyer is when he’s defending Israel. This rubber Constitution crap just has to go; else it becomes law that ‘means whatever I say it does,’ this week.
Just ask yourself this, Liz.
Hypothetical: Suppose President Washington was told that a Cuban had moved to Virginia to attend William and Mary’s. While there he had married a 20-something Virginian woman, gone to college, worked a year or two, and then moved to Canada in the thick of the war and the Cuban had applied for Canadian citizenship which he received. The two had a son, who was born a Canadian citizen.
They send a letter to Washington and ask “Is our son a natural born US citizen?”
What would Washington answer?
GW would not crumple even one curl on his periwig.
Or.....as Sherlock Holmes would say......elementary, my dear Watson.

Yep. It isn’t even in doubt that Cruz would not be considered an NBC in the era of the Founders.
BY LAW, which Congress does have authority to pass in this area, Cruz is a ‘citizen at birth’. That is legally permitted to pass as eligibility for the presidency, although it has never been challenged in court.
I get the feeling, x, that you are attempting to punish the sins of the father by passing that sin on to the son.
Ted Cruz’s mother was an American Citizen. His father’s reasons for moving to Canada are irrelevant to whether or not Ted Cruz would be an NBC. The statutory definition of being a citizen by nature of birth would include Ted Cruz.
Ted Cruz’s father’s motives are not relevant to the eligibility of Ted Cruz to be President. His NBC status was based on his mother’s citizenship.
Do you believe that the children of Islamic Refugees born in the United States are more qualified under the NBC clause to be President than Ted Cruz? Cruz’s father may have been a draft evader, but there are “eligible” children right now who are the children of people who have sworn to destroy this nation. At this point in our history the NBC clause is nothing more than a meaningless relic.
I don’t think the Founders would have supported anchor baby citizenship either.
So, this has to do with the Founders’ view. I think you have to agree in that scenario I hypothesized that Washington would not consider that child an NBC.
That said, “citizen at birth” is the designation given by Congress in the law in the area of naturalization that is an authority given to Congress by the Constitution. So, they are permitted to change what the Founders had determined, and it is legal.
So, Ted Cruz is legally able to pursue the presidency in our day. But he would not have been permitted in their day.
It’s an interesting fact to know as one makes decisions.
Now, you’re experienced with decades now of presidential elections. Tell me, will Hillary Clinton use that? What can the media do with that? More importantly, will the attacks PEEL OFF conservatives who value the Founders’ opinions?
Trump is finding out. Trump’s rise in Iowa to a tie with Cruz is probably based on his support for ethanol, but there could be a handful who are concerned with the citizenship issue.
You are posting a ‘Texas Tribune’ article?
The same “discredited” source that all the Cruz supporters REFUSED to accept his quotes from when he called for more 3rd world immigration, more h1bvisas, NO DEPORTATIONS and a legalizing all aliens. Cruz supporters said it was all lies, even though Cruz has NEVER objected to the Texas Tribune.
On Immigration, Cruz Aims for Middle Ground
[snip]Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.
âThe amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,â he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.
Cruz said recent polling indicated that people outside Washington support some reform, including legal status without citizenship.

Aren’t they all republicans in the REPUBLICAN primary? Of course he wants to beat them! Wow.
“Get ready for the âworried sickâ email barrage from the Cruz campaign. Nothing a few million wouldnât solve.”
I get 4 or 5 everyday. He gets those mailing lists from one of his big contributors, the NRSC (Cruz used to run this corrupt outfit) , when you vote in one of their pres polls for Trump. They are selling bogus Trump gear, keeping all the $$ to finance their candidates...like Rubio and Cruz.

“If Cruz was half the lawyer his cheering section claims he is he’d have taken care of this a year ago if not long before that.”
Exactly.

“Interviewer: “What is your understanding of how one becomes a natural born Citizen?”
Cruz: “Two citizen parents and born on the soil.”
Interviewer: “Not exactly, but as I don’t have enough time to fully explain how one does become an natural born Citizen, based on your understanding, would you agree that Barack Obama is ineligible to be POTUS?”
Cruz: “I would agree.””
Wow!
Obama claimed citizenship by birth in the US to a US citizen mother, so their circumstances are profoundly different. One in the US, one abroad. That's a crucial difference. It changes the outcome of the analysis.
At any rate, I can understand Cruz not being spooked into showing his CA BC in reaction to the 2013 letter.
“If Cruz had been born in the United States and was running against someone who was born in Canada of an American mother and didnât renounce his Canadian citizenship until he was 44 years and decided to run for president, Cruz would be calling him out on it. Being a democrat or republican has nothing to do with it. Why was Cruz so secretive about it and why has it gotten his skin? “

Cruz: “No, my main focus will be on repealing Obamacare.”
Interviewer: “But Mr. Cruz, if he is exposed as the usurping fraud he is, everything he has done will become null and void. Everything!”
Interviewer: “At that point, Cruz reiterated his main concern, so it was obvious the conversation was over as far as Cruz was concerned.
How many jobs has Ted Cruz created?
That. And, what payroll has he ever had to cover?
Unfortunately, the dems have signaled they are going to make a long court battle, and a big stink about this.
I think he should make fun of the issue for now, but if Cruz wins the nomination, he should do something with SCOTUS immediately to remove all doubt.
If anyone thinks the rats won't use this to derail him, kindly review what they've done in the past to win.
How many jobs has Ted Cruz created?
********************************************
He hasn’t created any jobs for non-citizens. Trump has created many thousands of jobs for non-citizens.
What is the ratio of non-citizen to American citizen employees at Trump’s STATESIDE businesses?
I think it was Rush who said long ago now that the original birther questioning of Obama was prompted behind the scenes by Hillary Clinton in their 2008 campaign. I wouldn't swear it was Rush where I heard it, but maybe...
If they will injure their own with a birther campaign, then I'm fairly certain they'll attempt to injure a republican presidential candidate during the election campaign.
I'm beginning to wonder if Hillary might get take down by Obama and have Biden drafted at the convention. The email thing could be the vehicle for them to explode her campaign.
