Due to the catastrophizing tendencies of political journalism, the revelation that Ben Carson has been lying about getting into West Point for 25 years has prompted rampant speculation about what happens if his campaign collapses and he drops out. Multiple commentators suggested that Ted Cruz, who, like Carson, is trying to court evangelical voters, has the most to gain...

Media attack Trump, later turned out to be false, Trump polls shot up.
Media attack Carson, later turned out to be false, Carson polls also shot up, no?
Why the difference? Why predicting a Carson implosion?
When the press launched dishonest attacks on Trump, I noticed who stood up for him and who tried to take advantage from these stupid attacks.
Same with any other candidate. I already know the press is dishonest. I’m interested in which candidates will forego the temporary advantage. So far Cruz has been pretty good about this kind of thing.
For the love of Pete.. The Politico story is a Lie.
General Westmoreland did not offer Carson a scholarship to West Point because they don’t exist. There is no record of any communication from West Point to Carson about ANY offer.
Amazing how the “media” won’t let the facts get in the way of a good narrative, eh?
The media regularly predict Trump will implode also.
My son was offered a spot at Annapolis and dis attend. To me it was a full ride scholarship coupled with a requirement to serve for a number of years.
Free ride - scholarship plus service? Hell, to me a scholarship seemed easier to say that appointment because appointments by 2 Senators and 1 Congressman was no guarantee of acceptance.
I didn’t read the article (I admit).
But... I think the liberal attack machine may have launched against Carson a little too soon. If Carson fades, Cruz moves to second and Trump does what? I don’t think Carson supporters are going to gravitate towards Trump. The differences seem large.
So the libs are helping Trump and Cruz by killing Carson to soon. I like Carson. I like what Trump has done for this election. I want to see Cruz be the next President. I don’t want Rubio. I want vote for anyone else.
This was not an implosion on the part of Gentle Ben. It was an assassination attempt by Politico, and there is no assurance just yet that it has been successful.
Herman Cain was blindsided back in 2012, by just this kind of tactic, and he was unprepared for the fallout that destroyed his campaign.
The warning is out - Blacks beware, and do not stray too far from the plantation. Advance only in accordance with a liberal agenda, or nothing.
Liberals can be as ruthless as ISIS in maintaining a tight grip on the orthodoxy of groupthink.
This is a deliberate LIE on the part of Politico, and if anyone should drill down on the substance, there is simply no “there” there. Benjamin Carson did meet with General Westmoreland, as an outstanding ROTC graduate, but never was he either offered a “scholarship” to West Point. or attended West Point. The contentions of Politico are meaningless.
And who fed this bit of disinformation to Politico? Rest assured it was not the Democrats, but more certainly, it was someone who claims to be “Republican” - but with an agenda.
Because Trump is different in a few ways.
First, Trump has had negative press for the better part of 30 years. All of his flaws and foibles are well known after just a cursory examination of his coverage. So Trump sayings something outrageous and controversial is a given, not a surprise. Carson doesn’t have that luxury. To people who saw him as a heroic figure on a mission to save America, every speck of dirt stands out in contrast to their hopes.
Second, Trump is a master of messaging and social media. He can get ahead of a story and get his side out faster that the media can write their slants and angles. Carson just doesn’t have that ability. Honestly, Trump stands alone in that ability in this cycle.
I don’t see any issue here.
While Westpoint has a different regimen for acceptance, as a result of Carson’s performance with ROTC he would have certainly been courted. The only difference being that a offer would be a offer to apply because the offer is really for the sponsor to begin the application. That means that someone in the ROTC hierarchy was willing to sign for him.
That is what a offer from West Point entails, but it is really a recruitment to apply for a appointment. it’s akin to the 1st step in the process. The sponsor.
It’s not rocket science, but I think the media jumped the shark on this one...again...
Well lets hear what Carson has to say on Hannity’s radio show right now.
Excellent point. I notice also how FReerpers behave. It’s quite telling.
Both of you made valid points.
Ahhh, vox.com. Getting it wrong. Again.
For the record I’m a #YugeTrumpFan, but I’m terribly disappointed he jumped to attack Carson so fast.
Everyone is on scholarship at West Point. That is to say, they don’t pay tuition.
I had the same deal with the U of Illinois when I was accepted into their PhD program. Everyone accepted was given a scholarship. As with West Point, the acceptance rate is very low.
I don’t know how credible Vox is, but let’s hope they’re right.
Trump smashmouths the media. He calls them out to their face and as “scum”, “dishonest” and they sit in the back of the hall recording it and taking it.
Love the guy - no apologies.
