Exeter, New Hampshire (CNN)Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Friday that a New Hampshire audience member would "get over" cuts to Social Security payments as a result of his reform plan -- and the left is already pouncing on the comment.
The Republican presidential candidate was asked about entitlement reform during NH1's "Fiscal Fridays" series in Concord, New Hampshire, on Friday, and he said it was something that would have to get done.
"We can't balance a budget without entitlement reform. What are we, kidding?" Kasich said when asked about his opponents who say they won't touch entitlements.
Kasich said he was part of the effort to reform Medicare and Medicaid in the '90s, and that he also had a plan to change Social Security so that initial benefits were lowered for individuals not yet near eligibility.
He asked audience members to raise their hands if they were far from receiving Social Security, asked them if they knew yet what their initial benefit would be and then asked them if they would be bothered if it were a little lower for the good of the country.
One person said it would be a problem.
"Well, you'd get over it, and you're going to have to get over it," Kasich joked....

Social security is only screwed up because the Feds continue to loot it. Now Kasich and the GOPe want to run on just scrapping the whole thing instead of fixing it. And, of course, the Democrats will run on “fixing” it but will just keep on looting it.
Kasich is a sanctimonious a-hole.
Said the representative from a family of multi millionaires.
Kasich is fun. He’s not even trying to win.
There is a very nasty, elitist, almost “Hillary like” air with John Kasich. Sort of a Royal air of the self ordained New Prince of the GOP. He expects to issue a dictate or command, and have all republicans in full compliance as trained robots never questioning, never debating.
I hope he’s not thinking or replacing Boehner, he would be even worse, openly determined to sell out left and right.
“I’m not here to win a popularity contest”?????
Once again Kasich proves his ignorance, Social Security is not an entitlement, it is a contract, we have all been paying into it since we started wworking.
What an unpleasant man he is showing himself to be, certainly not Presidential.
The only ones who should face Social Security cuts are the people who never paid into it.
Anyone born after 1955 who thinks he/she will see a dime of Social Security is nuts.
My (God willing) retirement plans have ZERO for the money stolen from me for the last 40 years.
Only fools will see this as simply a tax.
I pray FDR is burning in hell for the evil he perpetrated on the USA.
How to become irelevent in one easy statement
>>The Dems have been on this income inequality and wealth redistribution kick for some time.<<
The dumbest thing you can do under liberal “thinking” is be productive.
“Anyone born after 1955 who thinks he/she will see a dime of Social Security is nuts.

Amen.
It is not a matter of cutting Social Security.
It is already bankrupt. The projections on it ha been known for DECADES.
It won’t really help to stop giving out the disability benefits because it is bankrupt.
People born in the 1930’s & 1940’s get far more out of the program than the ever put in. People born after about 1960 will probably receive a NEGATIVE return.
Luckily I moved over seas just after university and worked for a non US based institution so I never had to put money into it. I am one of the Blessed of the EARTH, I am a US US Citizen who didn’t have to contribute to this Ponzi scheme.
It is long past time to kill off this horrible hydra that suck money to buy the votes of the elderly at the expense of the young
“Luckily I moved over seas just after university and worked for a non US based institution so I never had to put money into it.”
I knew an older French guy that was working in the states - he must have been 60 or so. He said he only had to work in the states for a couple more years and he would complete his 10(?) years of working in the states - which then meant he got SS for life!
Kasich is a sanctimonious A-hole.
He does not have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. He should get over it and slink back into whatever hole he calls his den.
Gotta love this fellows idea of charity - take it from those that have and give it to those that have not!
I always thought that was confiscation but could be wrong...
No. Social Security was never fully funded. It was always a pay as you go intergenerational transfer payment. There has NEVER been a true trust fund.
His is the pervasive notion, that SS is an ‘entitlement’ program.
First, that word ‘entitlement’ is nothing more than lib-speak for welfare.
Second, SS was never envisioned as welfare, but rather a supplemental retirement income program funded by ‘contributions’ from working Americans; separate and apart from the more common tax and spend model of Fedgov. It was monies to be held in trust by the government, and returned to the contributor in the form of distribution payments, post retirement.
Third, the SS model was nothing more than a federally approved Ponzi scheme, as it required contributions from the later added participants to pay the obligations to those who had signed on earlier.
Fourth, as with most things, fedgov couldn’t keep it’s grubby paws off that money and have used it for many other things.
So, now the mindset in DC has mutated into recognizing SS funds as just another revenue stream, to be lumped together with all the other revenue and used for whatever anti-Constitutional pogrom the elected elite deem appropriate.
Time to pitch out the whole bunch and start over.
