Donald Trump is a racist, sexist hypocrite who doesn't understand the economy (or basic math) and probably doesn't have anything resembling an inner life—but the man sure can put on a good show! Good enough that thousands of people who get off on the xenophobic, hate-filled subtext of his blathering will pack half a stadium to watch his combover blow in the wind. Which leaves one question for the sane among us: why is a television punchline appealing to people now?

The NY Times grappled with that question this weekend, and came up with some possible, but somewhat unsatisfactory, answers. In interviews with voters in Michigan and New Hampshire after Trump events, they found that no one cited his policies as motivation for backing him. Mostly, they like the fact that he has a brash personality.
His support is not tethered to a single issue or sentiment: immigration, economic anxiety or an anti-establishment mood. Those factors may have created conditions for his candidacy to thrive, but his personality, celebrity and boldness, not merely his populism and policy stances, have let him take advantage of them.
Tellingly, when asked to explain support for Mr. Trump in their own words, voters of varying backgrounds used much the same language, calling him “ballsy” and saying they admired that he “tells it like it is” and relished how he “isn’t politically correct.”
Trumpism, the data and interviews suggest, is an attitude, not an ideology...

Trump is purely a creature of Obama, without the hubris of an Obama you don’t get a Trump in diametric opposition. We want out pen and our telephone too.

What they are really pissed about is they don't have enough dirt on Trump to destroy him in favor of a candidate who will lose to whoever the RATs nominate, and that includes Joe "Plugs" Biden.
Trump is ahead in every state where there has been polling in the last month except Wisconsin and Ohio where their candidate governors lead. There are no polls since July 1 from of the places where the elites have their lairs NY, CA, DC. Could be embarrassing for the elites
Trump, despite being one of the richest guys in America speaks like a regular Joe, not a prorgramed automaton i.e. most politicians.

The political shadow of Richard Nixon. The murder of John Kennedy. The Civil Rights Act earthquake. The Cold War, specifically, the Berlin Wall, and Castro and the Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs. The beginning of the Vietnam War.
The main candidates: Goldwater versus Nelson Rockefeller. In other words, a Libertarian-Conservative against a Northeastern Liberal-GOP Elite.
Rockefeller's divorce, then his re-marriage, which broke up another family - an incredible scandal in that era.
In New Hampshire, the first primary, Henry Cabot Lodge, a write-in candidate, beat both Goldwater and Rockefeller!
The pivotal California primary that Goldwater won by a narrow margin.
The total chaos of the GOP Convention. Rockefeller denounced Conservatives in a prime time Convention speech. Goldwater's supporters booing and screaming and shaking their fists at Rockefeller.
As I recall, even William F. Buckley denounced Goldwater, but I can't recall why.
And: “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice!”
THAT was the most exciting GOP primary in my lifetime.
Ain’t it great? The uniparty chattering class are tearing their hair out, or what they have left, over it.
We shall see.
How about We The People are sick of and fed up with lying, corrupt amoral career politicians and the MSM who lies and covers for them?
The nyt struggles to understand Trump’s appeal because it fears the truth: people enjoy Trump because he hates people who read and work for the nyt (pronounced as ‘nit’, as in nitpicker).
The reason I like Trump is not all of the conventional reasons the media and pundits always spout off about. It is because he is different and brash and political incorrect. Those traits aren't negatives to me but positives. But more importantly, he knows how to win and be successful in business and if he doesn't have all the details and specifics worked about every single issue the policy wonks want him to have, he will figure it out. Because he is smart, he is positive and he is a winner. I'm sick and tired of the conventional politicians and leaders like most of the democRATS and RepubliCANTs are, with their dead-end proposals and do-nothing talk. Obama is at the head of that pack and he would just as soon sell his country down the river than to talk in an uplifting way about our future as a nation. He is a chronic liar and a despicable human being. Trump at least says what we want to hear instead of all the crappy stuff Obama spouts off.
Win or lose, Trump has altered the political landscape in this Republican primary season. No one else seems to have been able to break through because they are reacting to the leading candidate instead of leading the pack themselves.
Get out the popcorn, sit back and relax because we are in for a wild ride to the primaries (and beyond I believe).
Smell the fear. LOL!
