The real estate mogul and reality TV star has a seven-point lead over his nearest competitor in New Hampshire, and he's breathing down the neck of longtime Iowa caucuses leader Scott Walker, according to two NBC-Marist University polls released Sunday morning.
It's still very early in the 2016 campaign, and the first Republican debate on Aug. 6 in Cleveland could shake up the race, but Trump's surprising success suggests he will continue to be a significant force in the GOP primary.

Trump showed polish in what you saw, but in the Trump culture it is all about winning and performance. Look at the apprentice.
The winners in the Trump management are probably showered with recognition, money, perks, and a lot of fun things. The ones who do not perform also realize they are out.
As his special counsel Michael Cohen said in a recent interview, Trump got his experience as a New York developer. New York is one of the toughest most brutal places to develop real estate and he mastered it and came out on top. I would suggest that the New York real estate market is more brutal than running a campaign. Trump does not seem phased by anything because he has faced very tough circumstances in his business hundreds of times and overcame them.
Trump has got that killer instinct and at the same time has instilled it in his staff and it is obvious his staff loves to win. The other candidates simply do not have this.
Trump is building an organization for the campaign. He knows how and the candidates still don’t get that this man is very very talented. He is moving at lightning speed taking over the voter market with a brand new product to sell called: “Making America great again!!!” He is also doing it at a fraction of the cost of his competitors and they also do not get this.
Trump is using the classic approach business of delivering his product bigger, faster and cheaper than all the others. This is a concept that none of his fellow candidates have the capacity to understand because they live in a different world a world where value is not the focus and fund raising is.
The candidates think their number one customers are the donors and the voters a necessary evil and Trump realizes that his number one customer is the voter and the donors are a nuisance.
I will be the first to agree Trump is not a “perfect” candidate. But until a “perfect” candidate appears on the scene, he is better than others.

That won’t work against Trump. The Media is low hanging fruit for him.
I also believe that Trump’s detractors and fellow candidates are overlooking that Trump is in the hotel business which is all about making people happy. That is Trump’s training.
In his approach I bet he is wondering what will make the voters happy and how to give it to them. That is how you succeed in the hotel biz.
That is the big difference between Trump and his competition. Trump wonders how he can cater to the voters and deliver what they want just as he would do for a customer staying at his hotel. He knows if he does that the voter will keep buying from him.
His competition on the other hand is only interested in getting elected and then giving the voter crumbs.
This difference in attitude will vault Trump to the top.
I love the way they keep telling him his unfavorables are high. Trump simply views this as ignorant voters who have not sampled the Trump product yet so he keeps selling and thinks he needs better market penetration. Like any product, Trump knows that if enough people buy it, the rest will follow.

Yes and another fear the RNC has is that Trump will reveal that these two are happy to be Democratic Party lickspittle and feel that they are in the D.C. elite.
Exactly, as evidenced by this performance of elected republicans:
2008-2010
First they said they couldn’t do anything because they didn’t have the Presidency, House or Senate.
2010-2014
Then they said they couldn’t do anything because Harry Reid was blocking everything in the Senate.
2014-2016
Then they said they couldn’t do anything until the 2016 elections because Obama would veto.
2016-2018
Now they are saying they won’t be able to do anything even with a Republican President because too many Senate seats are up for grabs in 2018.
They promised us they would defund Obamacare. All talk, no action. They said they would reduce regulations on small businesses. All talk, no action. More speeches, no action.
Republicans control purse strings for 5 years through control of the House. What have they done? All talk, no action!
All true, but we don’t know if Trump (or anyone else) would make be much different.
Mostly it is Congress who control things. And in my opinion they should control fewer things and more things ought to be handled at the State or local level. Which means the President would have even less power to make any significant difference in most people’s lives. Which is how it should be. If Trump is for that then I’m for Trump.
I think in general we place far too much importance on the President and that just gives him/her more power than they should have.
That is exactly it.
Trump wants to give people what they want.
The candidates want to give the donors what they want and they refuse to see it differently.
As long as that difference exists, Trump dominates.

Trump is a Clinton plant and stalking horse. They know well what the people want and exactly how they will not give it to them.
Congress is only 1/3 of the power structure, according to our constitution. It is a fact that spending bill originate in the House of Reps. However the House can not pass any bill all by themselves and make it a law. The president has to sign it for it to become a law.
On top of everything, the president has the biggest megaphone and bully pulpit. How do you think Reagan was able to accomplish so much with a democrat controlled congress?
I concur with your desire to transfer more power from the federal power structure back to the states. But that is unlikely to happen anytime soon because the people who can actually do that are the exact people in charge now in DC. They will not vote to give up power, any more than they will sign their own demise by passing a term limits bill.
May be, just may be, a non-professional politician and businessman like Trump might go along with reducing federal power.
