Feb 4, 2015 1:00 AM NH1 Pulse Poll: Walker surges to top with Romney's exit; Bush second By: Paul SteinhauserNH1 Political Director - NH1.com CONCORD - New Hampshire may have a new front-runner in the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
The first survey conducted in the first-in-the-nation primary state since Mitt Romney's exit from the 2016 White House race indicates that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker leads the pack of potential Republican presidential contenders.
According to an NH1 Pulse Poll released Wednesday, Walker has the backing of 21.2% of those who say they're likely to vote in next year's GOP presidential primary. The automated survey indicates Jeb Bush in second place, with 14.4% saying they'd support the former two-term Florida governor if the Feb. 9, 2016 primary was held now.
The poll was conducted Monday and Tuesday, after Romney's announcement last Friday that he wouldn't make a third run for the White House. The 2012 GOP nominee and former Massachusetts governor, who owns a vacation home along Lake Winnipesaukee, is very well known in New Hampshire and would have been the front-runner in the primary if he had launched a campaign.
A NH1 Pulse Poll conducted two weeks ago put Romney at 29% support, far ahead of the rest of the field. Bush was at 11% and Walker was at 8% in that same survey.

FUJB!!!
It may be the cynic inside me, but I believe that this whole situation is being stage managed to provide a path to the nomination for Bush...Having Walker as the leader now, will deflect attention from Bush and when Walker falters, he will, Bush can rise up and take command of the nomination...this all should play out just before the nomination...but that’s just the cynic inside me talking...I told you earlier, no more oreos until I finish this post, now shut up...
I live up here and I’ve seen him scurry from insignificant issues for several years now. Yes, I know the paper is out to get him and it’s easy to read between the lines but the fact remains that his team did cut out some language that is near and dear to leftists hearts and now he’s backtracking. We have too many candidates that won’t stick to their guns.
As he should - I live in WIsco now and Walker has been awesome... Public Unions destroyed - I can now carry a fire arm - property taxes are under control -
Nobody is perfect, and I’ll be real disappointed if he gets the “Mitt” treatment and people stay home because of some obscure alien comments - Wisco is sooo far removed from the border issue it is ridiculous to be comment on it - he will do the right thing in the end.. Walker is a conservative - Wisco has an uber majority in the legislature largely due to him.. I can not explain the Prez elections.. but purity got us a 2nd Obama disaster -
I’m originally from Texas and think Cruz is a rock star - we are pretty far out from anything - but please people - the Walker bashing is baseless at this point..
Stay out of the Bushes indeed!
I want Walker, he’s battle-tested, stood his ground, and is conservative.
But I worry that the GOPe and their trolls may yet destroy him. It’s like my daughter telling me there’s a huge sector of Twitter who support ISIS. The enemy has infiltrated almost every form of communication. I pray for Walker.
I agree
It’s not broken and it does not need to be “fixed”. The laws need to be followed and our border secured like it was supposed to be. The problem is not following the laws that we already have in place.
Throw away lines I’m sick of hearing:
Our system is broken and needs to be fixed
Pathway to Citizenship
hiding in the shadows
secure the border
Majority of illegals flew in on jet planes on tourist or student visa. There is no system in place to track them, and penalize them. Great example of a broken system!
The easiest fix for illegals would be to punish employers who employ illegals. But that can NOT happen because the employers can not quickly check if someone is illegal or not. This is another example of a broken system.
You are correct in that laws on the books already are not being followed. So where is the penalty for not enforcing the laws? Without a penalty, it is just another example of a broken system.
Your statement that system is not broken is laughable. There are millions upon millions getting welfare benefits. You don’t think that is broken? What are the penalties to cities and states for paying welfare benefits to illegals? None! Without a penalty of fines and jail time, it is just another example of a broken system.
It’s not broken. We have lawlessness and the lack of will to enforce the laws.
And I don’t believe that these people are that hard to find. Our government doesn’t allow LE and border police to do their jobs. Heck, I saw a whole truckload of them outside of a neighborhood Mcds this past summer. I bet they could catch a few of them mowing our lawn in our condo complex.
Nonsense.
I have to wonder to myself how much of Walker’s recent polling strength is due to Rush’s outspoken support of him. I suspect quite a bit. Then I have to wonder what could have been had Rush been so outspoken in 2008 and 2012....
I will never support a Senator ever again as President.
VP is OK.
There were always warnings about supporting a Senator for President and I didn’t heed them. They do not have executive experience and that can be gained as VP, maybe.
No....Rush has nothing to do with it. The speech he made and the incredible results in Wisconsin are reasons for the highly deserved numbers.
Come on granny, they can’t even find 10 most wanted on FBI’s list. You expect them to find 15 million?
Are a you a realist?
New Hampshire is an "open primary" state, where Democrats can "cross-over" and vote for the weaker Republican Presidential candidate. "Open Primary" should be banned among the states.
There is nothing wrong with those people mowing the lawns. You should have seen how hard this Mexican guy in his mid-20’s worked on building my brick path in my backyard. His wife was born American, he could’nt speak 2 words in English.
What is needed is that the worker should have a government work permit. But our system is broken. There is no system to get the worker a official work permit.
I spent a week in Singapore last year. There are 3.5 million citizens. And 2 million foreign workers doing all the menial hard jobs. Every one of those foreign workers must have a 2 year work permit to work. Guess what, you don’t see any illegals in Singapore.
More than that, their are trolls on many different fronts, not just coming from the GOPe. Campaigning can be a nasty fight. The staff of other contenders are not above putting out disinformation and even using dirty tricks to smear a candidate.
I’d still like to know how the whole thing about Herman Cain sexually harassing women cam up and who brought it forth, funded the research, came up the list of women, etc. Was it the Romney campaign? The GOPe? (same thing) The democrats? The media? (also the same thing)... Or maybe one of the other competing candidates? Or maybe just some actually harassed women who came forward and the rest snowballed?
There’s an old saying in the Air Force, “You know you’re over the target when you start getting flak.”
I also believe that the mighty power of government was involved, and believe many of the smears could be traced right back to the Obama White House, to wit; Herman Cain, Mitt Romney’s tax records, the denial of 501 C status to pro-conservative groups, and probably every “revelation” to hit the press back in 2012.
What scandals will come forth for the candidates of 2016? We don’t know yet, but my bet is some will come forth.
The man with the best job in the country is the vice-president. All he has to do is get up every morning and say, ‘How is the president?’
-Will Rogers
Yep, that is too true, sadly.
Not that you will ever get a single one of the FR purity fanatics to admit that they got 0bama re-elected.
And they were/are darned proud of the accomplishment.
Did I say there was something wrong with Mexicans mowing the lawn? Nope. I did not. There is something wrong with it if they are not here illegally.
Mexicans can get work permits the same way Chinese people, Vietnamese people etc. get work permits. Are you saying we don’t give out any work permits?
It is not America’s job nor it’s responsibility to provide jobs for everyone in the world. It’s America’s responsibility to provide jobs for American citizens, something it’s failing at right now.
It is Mexico’s responsibility to provide lawn mowing jobs for their citizens.
