The Obama-Biden campaign bus tour rolling through Pennsylvania this week, about four months before Election Day, illustrates that the road to re-election runs through the Keystone State.
Many political analysts believe that President Barack Obama cannot win without Pennsylvania, so it would seem self-evident that the state should get considerable attention from both campaigns in the upcoming election. Instead, Pennsylvania has been downgraded by some pundits and may have been dropped from the list of top-priority swing states by the Romney campaign.
We believe that's a mistake, and that Pennsylvania instead is poised to become the Ohio or Florida of 2012 -- the battlefield that decides the outcome of the presidential race.
A recently released Quinni- piac poll found Mr. Obama leading by a comfortable 6 points in a head-to-head matchup in Pennsylvania, while also showing that he has only a 46 percent job-approval rating. That's in the danger zone for any president seeking re-election, and the fact that it's exactly the same number as his support base suggests that he may not have much upward room in which to move.
Historically for presidents seeking a second term, the Gallup Presidential Approval Rating is more predictive than early head-to-head polling numbers, and not a single president has been reelected with an approval rating of less than 49 percent since Gallup began reporting that number in 1948 (Truman vs. Dewey). If that number gets any lower in Pennsylvania than its current 46 percent, Mr. Obama's vulnerability will be clearly documented, and Pennsylvania will fit any definition of a full-fledged swing state.
Those who suggest the GOP should cede the Keystone State to Mr. Obama are turning their backs on a real opportunity...

We went down this road in 08. Obama will carry Pennsylvania.
Romney and his people better start going on the offense. Obama’s been attacking him left and right and Romney just takes it. Romney should have a field day on offense, but so far he’s looking wimpy.
Especially with the Justice Department approved Black Panther, OWS, SEIU, International ANSWER, LaRaza, LULAC and ACORN poll watchers with revolvers, billy clubs and brick bats at every polling place.
Totally!
PA will go for 0bama. Everyone should just count on it. The Republicans had best not go down that rabbit hole. Almost makes me wonder if some of these pollsters don’t make some states ‘look’ good, just long enough to get the Rs to waste time/money. You know the state party people on the ground wouldn’t admit it, because they like being part of the action, feeling like they might mean something to the outcome.
Romney is a Gentleman Republican. As such, and as Dole and Senior Bush and Ford and McCain before him, he demands the honor of the Republican nomination but as for the election, well, he’d rather not actually have to be President. Republicans believe in their hearts that the Democrats are the natural Ruling Party and Republicans exist to help raise taxes for their programs and occasionally provide more efficient management for them.
What say you?
PA is 82% white. I can understand the coal miner/factory worker voting for the traditional 1950s Democrat party, which is now the Republican party, but not why they'd vote for an out-of-the-closet homo-socialist party. Barky is no longer the blank canvas people can project whatever they want onto.
It sure would be suh-weet if this turned out to be true.
I believe Romney will carry Pennsylvania, but I don’t believe it will win it or Obama either way.
“...but I dont believe it will win it or Obama either way.”
That doesn’t resemble what I meant to say...LOL.
Once again the Pennsylvania Democratic Party Machine attempts to sucker the GOP Presidential Campaign into wasting resources in Pennsylvania. If Obama were truly in danger of losing PA, then he would already have lost NC, OH and a bunch of other swing states. Either way Pennsylvania is academic.
for Obama to lose PA, it would take a landslide. He will lose VA, NC, FL and OH before PA, and maybe CO.
I had an automated poll call yesterday. My responses indicated I was a black female Democrat who was unhappy with Obama.
As the senate is the upper house and the house of representatives the lower house in congress, so is the Democrat Party the upper party and Republican Party the lower party in the political arena and each knows its place.
They are both branches of the same political crime syndicate, The Establishment!!!
Exactly. You can’t fix stupid. No use wasting time and money in Pennsylvania. Let the ‘RATS do that. IMHO.
They made some recent progress with Carter...more with Clinton and even some with the Bush clan. And some really, really major headway with the purple lipped price
Romney, being conservative lite (conservative void, actually) will do no harm to their agenda for the next four years...while the MSM bashes the Republican leadership to hell over that period of time, creating the environment for more one percenters (OWS) to bitch about come next election.
Stand by...we will think victory but have much, much work to do.
I'm all in!
