Almost any politician in America follows tried and true patterns when dealing with the media. They alert the media of an upcoming event, the media shows up, photos are taken, cameras roll. Sometimes questions follow. And then the media goes home. But not Sarah Palin.
Palin alerted the media of the first stop on her northeastern road trip: Rolling Thunder. But after some event organizers expressed displeasure at her attendance on Friday, her staff refused to comment about the appearance, and some reporters wondered if she’d even go. No time was given – the event lasted from 7am to 5pm. No venue was given – Rolling Thunder’s course goes for more than five miles from Arlington cemetery around the National Mall. The annual charity for prisoners of war and missing in action draws a quarter of a million bikes and an estimated 900,000 participants – good luck finding the Palin family.
Amazingly, some media did (bravo, AP’s Phil Elliott), though the former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee mostly refused to answer questions. She signed jackets and hats, shook hands and admired tattoos. She rode on the back of her middle daughter, Willow’s Harley. Husband Todd rode with their youngest daughter Piper and their eldest daughter Bristol rode separately, according to media reports. Palin had “rolling justice” written in smeared ink on one hand and a George W. Bush sticker on her bike reading, “Miss me?” “There’s no better way to see D.C. than on the back of a Harley! My family may be used to snowmachines more so than motorcycles,” Palin wrote on her political action committee’s website. “But whether you’re riding the open road or the frozen tundra, you’re celebrating a free spirit. What could be more American than that?”(continued)

I simply don’t think Palin used this opportunity as well as she could have, messaging wise. Why are you so disproportionately bent of shape?

Took an incognito tour of our beautiful national monuments tonight. We met some great everyday citizens who were also "taking it all in" in honor of the greatest nation on earth. One couple we met traveled from Michigan to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in our nation's capital, and they expressed how thankful they were to live in this land of great opportunity. We were also privileged tonight to get to thank a member of the greatest generation for his service in WWII. This fine patriot was surrounded by his large extended family that had pooled together to send their patriarch from Oklahoma to DC this Memorial Day weekend to see the breathtaking WWII memorial built to honor that generation's tremendous sacrifice. Meeting him and his caring family made my heart soar with pride for the honor so many show our military vets.
Tonight, as the sun set and we gathered to read the eternal words of President Lincoln at the majestic memorial in his honor, we were shown more reasons why Americans can feel great pride in our exceptional nation. The Lincoln Memorial reminds us that ours is to be a government "of the people, by the people and for the people" and it's with gratefulness for past generations that we can commit ourselves to living out the promises and values etched on those memorial walls.
And that's what this tour is all about.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
They are beside themselves worrying about what Palin will do. It’s really quite hilarious.
Wow. Thank you for posting the photo of Gov. Palin and Rep. Allen West. It makes me smile. They’re two of my favorites.

Wolverines I said last night, Sarah Palin will be like the Wolverines in the classic movie, “Red Dawn”.
This is an excellent offensive posture against the MSM.
What does her campaign map look like?
I bet she just throws a dart at it and then says to the crew, “That is where we will go!”
Nothing wrong with being spontaneous and I sincerely hope it stays that way, because in just one day she has made a historic move simply by her actions, all the right moves and all in the right direction, no faux paux untimely errors or gaffes, no weak image or posturing, no over the top grandstanding entourage with an army of protection.
What a real leader should be, a person the people love and respect, a leader with the right stuff.
Certainly not a "Day of Service" (AKA SUBMISSION, AKA ISLAM) on the day of infamy!

Palin/West 2012?
Maybe she didn’t “use” it as well as she could because she wasn’t “using” it at all. She was invited. She accepted. Perhaps, as a Blue Star Mom, she wasn’t thinking about how her being there would look to others as much as she wanted to show her support for the organization. IMO she’s the kind of person who would show up whether or not the press was breathing down her neck.

I think I read somewhere that some of the bikers were upset that she took part in this thinking all she wanted was the publicity, but it sounds like she attended the rally just like any normal American. By not announcing time and place etc that supports the notion.
Secondly, I don’t think she’s announced her campaign, so this guy is criticizing her for not announcing in advance where she’s going.

John Kerry used to ride his motorcycle. I remember someone here on Free Republic pointing out the irony in his wearing a helmet to ride a bicycle but not wearing a helmet when riding his motorcycle. He’s still an idiot, but he’s an idiot who does ride a motorcycle.
I agree with what you say, but adding this.
IF it’s true that she is going to pick stops that are historically significance, and not tell the MSM ahead of time, do interviews only with the local press and not the national ones, then that is brilliant.
