While New Jersey's version of the New York smoking ban makes its rounds in Trenton, the American Cancer Society attempted to garner support for the bill and for the idea of smoke-free bars and restaurants in New Jersey by sponsoring a smoke-free happy hour Thursday at O'Donoghue's restaurant and bar in Hoboken.

"How are they going to feel about people standing outside a bar congregating because they can't smoke inside?"
Don't worry, they are going to ban it on the street one of these days and its not going to be long. Ah, the wonderful effects of prohibition, deeper and deeper you get dragged.

When the event kicked off about 5 p.m., the bar was mostly empty except for people affiliated with the American Cancer Society. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
It should be noted that the attempts at a New York style smoking ban coming to New Jersey has been killed. The only thing left is Restaurants and Casinos smoking section can only be 20%. The bill was watered down in the Assembly which is controlled by Democrats, The sad part is NJ Democrats are appartenly more Conservative than most of the Republicans New York, Delaware and Maine.

As American Cancer Society employees and O'Donoghue's patrons mingled inside, Joseph Lepis, Jr., a senior environmental specialist for the Hudson County Health Commission, passed out fliers and cards with information about second-hand smoke.......
I would have lit my cig with that flier
To: Arkinsaw
They have done that in some residential communities already here in NJ too.
Example, in North Caldwell, you can't smoke at in front of your house. So, if you are a nonsmoker and have guests, any of them smokes, they have to go to the backyard to have a cig.

Yur kidding me right?....Ill gladly come by and smoke in front of yur house...lets see if I can get them to send out a SWAT team.

I live in North Brunswick. The town I'm referencing is North Caldwell.
And if a neighbor 'complained' about her guests smoking outside, my sister in law will get fined.

Hmm, did that make sense? My sister in law lives in North Caldwell.
Hope that clarifies.

As more and more of these take effect you will see more and more of the natural reaction to prohibition.
Al-Qaeda has already made a mint in North Carolina selling bootleg cigarettes. You'll have unlicensed bars operating (with all the hazards that entails). Smuggling across borders, turf wars between smugglers, more and more government resources going towards interdiction, etc., etc.
We never learn.

Make note of Arkinsaw's North Carolina reference. This supports the research you have already done.

Don't forget Connecticut. As Johnny Rino, our governor said:
'I don't agree with the smoking ban, but it's the wave of the future, so I'll sign it.'
To: Calpernia
Not only would I light up a cig with the summons..But Id be willing to see how far the kingdom of caldwell would want to take it in court and yea they best send whoever they have at the dunkin doughnuts to try to enforce this BS

Here is a little unknown group that I had no idea existed:
http://www.njgasp.org Seems to be the $$$ behind all the prohibition laws going on here in NJ.
(oh, in reference to the smoking summons. That is the cuteness of the law, see, if Aunt Doe is seen smoking at my sister in laws...it is my sister in law that gets the summons, nice huh?)

I'm one of those people who is particularly sensitive to second-hand smoke. My contact lenses start to bother me, my nose closes up, and I become pretty uncomfortable. Nevertheless, I find it an affront to freedom to force bar and restaurant owners to prohibit smoking in their establishments. I stay away from places that allow smoking, for the above-mentioned reasons, but I believe that people should have the right to go there, just as much as I have the right to stay home. Let tavern and restaurant owners choose whether or not ot allow smoking in their establishments, and let the marketplace decide their relative success.

I dont know anything about Al-Qaeda smuggling cigaretts.

Here is a little unknown group that I had no idea existed: http://www.njgasp.org Just look at their funding
New Jersey GASP gratefully acknowledges our supporters. Major funding for New Jersey GASP's Tobacco Control Policy and Legal Resource Center is provided by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program, funded by the Master Settlement Agreement, administered by New Jersey Breathes. Additional funding is provided by the F.M. Kirby Foundation, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, Alan Kligerman, New Jersey GASP members, and the New Jersey Breathes Coalition, at the Medical Society of New Jersey, funded by the Smokeless States Program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Lot of their funding comes from Tax money which is pretty annoying that smokers, Bars & Restaurants, Casinos are having their hard earned tax money used to lobby against them.
A lot of their money also comes from pharmaceutical companies which leads to Another annoying thing about articles written on this subject by the Liberal Press. Notice in all articles on the subject If you are on the side of the Anti-smoking than you are a group or an activist but of course if you are on the pro-property rights side then you are a lobbyist.
