[history]
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Public health interests prevailed over warnings that personal freedoms are being eroded as the Maine House gave its final approval to a bill to ban smoking in bars and taverns.
Representatives' 95-47 enactment vote sent the measure to the Senate and put Maine a step closer to joining California and Delaware in imposing statewide bans on smoking in bars. New York's ban starts in July, and Connecticut's newly enacted ban on smoking in bars takes effect next April.

If you think the "War On Drugs" is bad, just wait till the "War On Tobacco" gains full speed.
How many prisons and how many new cops will we have to have ? Government at ALL levels has become totally out of control and I say it's about time we take the S.O.B. back !!

Next thing you know they'll be regulating smoking in the privacy of our own homes.Believe it or not, a few people in the California state legislature tried this about 10 years ago: banning smoking in homes that had children under five years old. The measure didn't go anywhere, but just the fact that such a thing was proposed in the U.S. is frightening. More to come, I'm sure.

Check out how much NY makes in profit on cigarettes.

You know what I just found out? You can purchase cigarettes for your child legally in GA. They just can't purchase them on their own and you can purchase them for someone else's child.
"Customers must be 18 years or older to purchase tobacco products. The purchase of cigarettes or tobacco-related products on behalf of a minor, unless the minor is the child of the purchaser, is prohibited. "

Not that I would buy them for my toddler LOL.. just found that really interesting because my neighbors use to buy them for their 16 yr old son.

Looks like an attempt to support parental involvement. That's not necessarily bad.

There is a tie-in between Nazis and anti-smoking but I don't remember the details. Someone else here may be able to detail it.Hitlers fanatisism first reared it's ugly head as an anti smoker.

Addiction to tobacco is a load of crap used by the vast victim conspiracy. Smokers smoke because they like it. Anyone who says I can't quit doesn't want to. Yes, nicotine and addiction is a load, nicotine leaves the body in 36 hours, yet I know people who quit over 20 years ago, they admit to still wanting a smoke when someone else is smoking, one is my neighbor, the other one a fellow badminton player.

Lucky you! At least you got the option to vote for the ban. Here in Pueblo, it was arbitrarily passed by the City Council without any input from the public. We all woke up one day to learn they had passed a smoking ban in ALL public places including PRIVATE businesses and then the dumb Democrat majority voted to uphold the ban.
Dems just love that government control over every aspect of our lives.

Some people have a great need for attention and will get it here,if we allow it.
From now on I won't even respond to some of the more malicious antis and then maybe they will go away.
As my mother used to say,"You might as well be talking to the wall".

My father quit cold turkey 22 years ago and looks at me with a longing in his eye. But he says that the reason is he remembers how much he liked it.

"I wish I could.. but my mom doesn't know I smoke shhhhhh! LOL I am 25, married with 2 kids, and STILL afraid to tell her i smoke. I've done it off and on since I was 16. She's a freeper too so i hope she doesn't find this thread!"
The first step is to be open about your life choice. Be proud that you are an adult and can make choices for yourself. When your mom begins to lecture her, ask her if for some reason does she now think that you are not a "good" person. If she agrees then you know that the anti rhetoric even worked with your mom. Demonize the smoker, then outlaw the behaviour! Then you can begin to convince your mom, as a fellow freeper, to support your individual rights.

Your graph showing the NY income per pack of cigs is out of date. The current price of a pack in NYC is approx. $7 or more. The numbers your graph shows have grown in the last year.

Lack of tolerance and being self absorbed is the "life choice" of the anti's. I say we ban intolerance and self absorption....

I said "rude behavior". Rude behavior is being legislated all over the country.By the way, I slept much better last night knowing that the government was regulating just my behavior, and not me.
