[history]
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Public health interests prevailed over warnings that personal freedoms are being eroded as the Maine House gave its final approval to a bill to ban smoking in bars and taverns.
Representatives' 95-47 enactment vote sent the measure to the Senate and put Maine a step closer to joining California and Delaware in imposing statewide bans on smoking in bars. New York's ban starts in July, and Connecticut's newly enacted ban on smoking in bars takes effect next April.

Thanks. I am now registered. I used to get their stuff and then I moved and never told them where I was. the threat was less at the time than it is now. You know when I was in Basic training USAF summer of 72. We took frequent smoke breaks. We couldn't smoke in the barracks but Butt cans were everywhere outside. "Sqaud Halt, at ease, light em if you've got em".

Hope the site is useful. I found it good to use for actual facts in discussions with anti's. Of course they never beleive the facts!
I also go on another smoker's discussion board. A typical anti comment is below, it is an example of how self absorbed and ignorant the typical anti is. I wonder if the antis on this beard realize that this is what they are associating themselves with:
"I hope you morons all die of cancer and I look forward to you going under the anesthetic just before the surgeon makes that incision above your adams apple to remove the cancerous growth eating up your cells. Smokers are like blacks, they are poisoning our society.
Smokers violate me Here's my proposal: Yes, it is every smoker's right to smoke (inhale). But as the smoker exhales, he is violating the rights of everyone around him to breathe smoke-free air. (I won't bother with "clean" air, as this really doesn't exist anymore.) As it is against the law to violate someone without his consent in any definition of the word, it should be against the law to exhale - with a charge of attempted murder. Moreover, smoking parents should be arrested for child endangerment and attempted murder if caught smoking around their kids. Smokers are always bellyaching about their rights as smokers. What about the rights of us non-smokers? We have no desire to be around you, your smelly clothes, yellow teeth, bad breath, wrinkly skin, chronic coughing and "nic fits." Smokers in my opinion are mentally ill criminals. They should quit or be put down.Like the mad dogs they are.

You have no right to smoke in public. In fact most states had smoking bans in place at the time the constitution as signed.Following your logic, then Blacks have no right to vote.

The argument here is whether the government can ban smoking on private property like a restaurant or bar.,That simple. Of course they can and a matter of fact they are.Let me rephrase: The argument here is whether the government has constitutional authority to ban smoking on private property. Just because the government has banned smoking doesn't make it constitutional. That's what we're debating here.

Didn't you get the word? Minion will now be referred to as Gnat. All replies to Gnat should say, "There's that buzzing noise again".

Pueblo, Colorado City Council was the first in CO. to pass a "no smoking" ordinance in the state. But it doesn't allow smoking in ANY PUBLIC BUILDINGS...period...including bars and restaurants.
The people's response was to have a recall election of the three who voted for the ban and to "try" and get the smoking ban removed.
In the end, the smoking ban was upheld and only one councilman was recalled only to be replaced by a CONVICTED FELON! LOL..ya gotta love Colorado politics!
Now we're stuck with a smoking ban like New York City and a jailbird on our city council.
The ban was based on junkscience about the dangers of second-hand smoke. Next thing you know they'll be regulating smoking in the privacy of our own homes.

Hey, minion!
Is 'SmokeFreeSam' in #502 your handle on that site?
You SmokeNazis all look alike to me; please help.
To: moondoggie
We followed that pretty closely.
It was, at least, put to a vote of the people and not instituted by the council and/or health board.
As it was, since people think we live in a democracy, it was not passed with an overwhelming majority, just a majority.
Do I think the government, of ANY type, should have the ability, whether right or power, to make a private business owner ban the use of a legal product? A resounding, "NO!".
But at least it was put to a vote of the townspeople.
They may change their mind when they find out what the ban does to businesses.

Must you people be reminded that cigarettes are a LEGAL product?
Banning a legal product from PRIVATE BUSINESSES throws private property rights right out the window, doesn't it?
All of you anti-smoking Nazis have the option of NOT patrionizing businesses who have smoking sections and you also have the right to seek employment elsewhere if smoke bothers you in the work place.
And, your lame argument about "inconsiderate smokers" is lame when you have so many ways of avoiding that which offends you.

"I've seen even worse that those right here on FR." - Flurry
That is the sad thing.
"Smokers are to SmokeFreeSam what the Jews were to Hitler. Scary." - Kevao
That is why the anti term is so easily interchangeable with Nazi. Of course they don't like the term, but then again they don't like any truth or fact!
"You SmokeNazis all look alike to me; please help." - Headsonspikes
They all look the same to me too. The same rhetoric and the same enthusiasm to hand over their rights!
"When they came for the pot smokers, I said nothing because I was not a pot smoker" .... - MrLeRoy
I think you recognize I support you on this one too. In addition you can change the "pot smoker" words to red meat eater, soda drinker, oreo eater, fast food customer, coffee drinker, etc. At what point will these Nazi dolts wake up and smell the vegan diet coming?
