AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Public health interests prevailed over warnings that personal freedoms are being eroded as the Maine House gave its final approval to a bill to ban smoking in bars and taverns.
Representatives' 95-47 enactment vote sent the measure to the Senate and put Maine a step closer to joining California and Delaware in imposing statewide bans on smoking in bars. New York's ban starts in July, and Connecticut's newly enacted ban on smoking in bars takes effect next April.

Please clarify a couple of details:
And nobody can figure out why.
I hate to say it, MAINE, but you ain't no California. People aren't exactly clammering to live up there where there is winter 11 months out of the year. Now, it's a liberal stronghold, certainly no one wants to live in one of the Nazi states.
Delaware is not Maine, but winter is no picnic there; but the statewide smoking ban which went into effect there 6 months ago (the day before Thanksgiving to be exact) has been devastating to the hospitality industry.
Poor little Delaware, the antis tout it out all the time as a model of a smoking ban, because it is more stringent than California - but no one looks at it for the horrendous damage it has caused.
So, before the craziness of California, New York, and Maine filters (no pun intended) out to the rest of us, it's time to re-schedule your vacations and business dealings to states which still support the Constitution and personal freedoms.
Delaware did it before NY - that doesn't happen until the end of the month and Maine hasn't done it yet.
The only people happy about the Delaware smoking ban are the bar owners and their employees in Maryland and the charities in Delaware that are supported by the Moose, Elks and Lions.
I couldn't care less if you don't agree with me and would do anything humanly possible to avoid the company of you and/or your family.
I do care about the erosion of private property rights.
Trust me, he would find something........... or he would surely die.
This crock of beans is coming out of the keyboard of the same person, who when confronted by evidence to the contrary of what smokers can and have done, on another thread, sort of, kind of, just maybe, NEVER RESPONDED.
Gotcha
There is that word, is that what your wife is doing to you...... are you almost perfect yet. ???
Or. paraphrasing a popular bumper sticker: "Of all the things I've lost, I miss Freedom the most"
Could be that Minion doesn't have any nice considerate friends........... I wonder why.
It works for a lot of people, but I had 3 friends going there...... it didn't work for any of them.
Actually I have to agree with you but for the following reasons:
1. First of all you nazis told us if we are going to smoke on your planes then we had to do it in the back. Reluctantly we obliged you because after all, it was all about you.
2. Then, you nazis decided that having us in the back of the plane wasn't good enough so you banned us from the plane completely. Reluctantly we obliged you because after all, it was all about you.
3. Then you nazi's decided you didn't like us smoking in our offices so you relegated us to designated smoking areas in the work place. Reluctantly we obliged you because after all, it was all about you.
4. Then you nazis decided that our own smoking area still wasn't good enough for you so you closed down our smoking area and told us to take it outside. Reluctantly we obliged because after all, it was all about you.
5. Then you nazis told us folks who couldn't smoke on the plane any more that we could no longer smoke in any of the terminals and had to go outside. Reluctantly we obliged because again, it was all about you.
We have succumbed to your every demand and yet you have continued to demand more and more and more from us! And yet you have the audacity to call us rude when we have accomodated you bastards at each and every turn!
Well I've got news for you my friend, I don't care if I offend you and your bretheren any more, in fact I am now going out of my way to offend anyone who is stupid enough to confront me with their non-smoking attitudes. We/I tried to get along with you zealots but you just wouldn't give up would you? Well, you are certainly pissing off a lot of people these days so you had better watch which bars you choose to spout your anti-smoking rhetoric in. But then again, I certainly don't expect to see you in the places I hang out in but I would certainly love to! I would come pretty damn close to ignoring my tag line......
You've got it partially right sport, we will go to the bars that allow us to smoke and will stay away from those who choose to discriminate against us. Now why can't you have the same attitude? You go to your non-smoking bars/restaurants and help keep them in business and stay out of ours ok? That concept seems pretty easy to understand doesn't it?
Kiss my ass, kiddie. You don't have the capacity to see the big picture at all, it's obvious.
Not quite sure which will occur first but I suspect there will be a large number of unintended injuries/deaths before the 50th state is banned. The prohibition era wasn't a very friendly time for the bootleggers and feds and a modern day cigarette prohibition ain't going to be so pleasant for you folks either.....
Since they aren't registered, they don't know I've got em......
Shelion runs the *puff* list.
Becki
Actually your own statement is completely bullshit as evidenced by the dismal failure in the drug war against illegal substances such as cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamines, heroin etal.....
Oh, and have you also forgotten how OVERWHELMINGLY SUCCESSFULL the prohibition era was in controlling the evil alcohol peddlers?
Care to try to substantiate your ignorant statement?
